For those mentioning ezpass yes it is illegal to be on your windshield. By law all you are allowed to have on your windshield is an inspection sticker and rear-view mirror.

I thought it was a line of sight deal. As in if you have ez-pass behind your r/v mirror or otherwise out of your line of sight it is ok. kind of along the tinted area at the top of the windshield. Or when there were inspections there were guidelines on windshield damage based both on size and location of damage. IIRC up to a 1” crack/chip was allowed but it could not be in the line of sight – as in it had to near an edge.

edit:

From http://www.ezpassnj.com/static/faq/tag.shtml#how

How do I install my tag?

Properly installing the interior E-ZPass tag in your vehicle is easy and essential.

1. Clean and dry the inside of your windshield around the rear view mirror.
2. Without removing the mounting strips from the tag, remove the tape backing from the mounting strips.
3. Turn the tag label right side up facing you. Adhere the tag inside your car to the upper center portion of your windshield, behind the rear view mirror at least one inch to the right of the center support of the mirror and at least one inch below the top edge of the windshield, or below the tinted section of the glass.

Man I love the profiling crap. I've driven a loud as **** C5 for the last 3 years(currently 23) that has NEVER had a front plate, and have been pulled over once.... for speeding. As already stated he gave you a break, and if you had left the detector and not acted like an ass, you likely would have gotten 2 warnings and no tickets. Stop being a whiney brat.

If you were in the trooper's shoes, would you feel comfortable walking up to a car where you just saw the driver make a sudden motion inside the vehicle and put his hand(s) down near the console(which happens to be where a lot of people unlawfully keep their firearms)? You said the officer passed you on the left initially, so he would have had a clear line of sight to see the detector in the windshield. He saw you make a sudden motion, which he only knew after he walked up to the car was to move the radar detector. Having it in the windshield basically tells a LEO that you have intent to speed, why would you need it if you were a law abiding citizen who doesn't exceed the posted limit? You both know why it's there. When you moved it, it showed the officer that you knew it didn't look good to have it there. If you pulled over, shut the car off, and left your hands in plain view with no sudden motion he would have been more at ease walking up to the car and probably would have given you a verbal warning.

That's pretty arrogant and ironic. You claim the officer profiled you, but it seems to me that you're the one who was profiling the officer. Since he's "scum", he's obviously going to come after you and only you, because you're a young driver in a Camaro, right?

I can understand if you're just ticked and venting about getting a ticket, but you were wrong on two counts by law (and one count morally) and let off easy.

I have put this up a few times before, but if you want a REALLY out of sight radar detector than buy an ESCORT SOLO, which uses 2 AA batteries, and then use the clip to slide it on the back of your passenger side sun visor. NO CORD and not hardly seen. Get them used on eBay for about $100.00. DONE!
