Need a simple cheap tune - Turn off O2's after cats in Jersey/DE/PA area.

I need a shop in the Jersey/DE/PA area that can turn off the Rear O'2 on a 2001 V6 Camaro so It can pass inspection. It's throwing the codes for o2 Failure. I called a shop and that want $150 for 5 minutes worth of work. I'm looking to hire a more reasonably priced person to do this simple task. Can anyone assist me?

Someone I know has (HPtuners?) software that will let him access/modify any 2000 F-Body without purchasing additional credits--Just the price he paid for the unit. I'm not sure if there is a similar option for 2001 VINs, so I'm raising the question to the club now...

Ok thanks. My girlfriends 2001 is on its THIRD SET of CATS. It's complete non-sense to put new ones in.

Let know .

my program (that mike mentioned) is an old serial version of hptuners

I can edit any 2000 v8 car, but unfortunately they got smart and wanted more money so now when you buy their program (very pricey) you have to buy the license for whatever car and then credits for each vin I believe. I don't think you're really going to beat $150 unless you find someone with hptuners locally that's not looking for much (if any) profit

is it actually modified? or are you just trying to avoid replacing o2's?

mail order tune is another option and might at least get you a few hp if it's modified in addition to getting through inspection for the same price as the shop just tuning out sensors at least

there's also the spark plug non fouler trick, google it and see if you can trick the car to at least not throw the code. I don't hear of it much on fbody forums but it works on some cars with aftermarket or missing cats.

Any idea why it keeps destroying them?

No idea why the cats dont last, she's been taking it to her mechanic for the emissions issue.

It's a V6 and she's a chick so horsepower means nothing to her. Could a mail order tune be set to improve MPG?

The car has no mods, the mechanic says its not the O2's. This is supposedly a friend of the family so I doubt he's lieing.

I just remember paying $175 for a complete tune on my 01 SS 3 years ago from Chummma so I thought a simple minute long edit would be cheaper, but HPtuners charging a 100 a car it a lot.

Maybe a shot in the dark, but maybe something is clogging the exhaust and making the cat temps too hot?

Something is killing your cats extremely prematurely and I would fix that issue

+1 on this, I did this to my 2005 audi s4 that had absolutely no cats, turned off the cel and it never came back. You can get the non-foulers at any auto part store, you have to drill one out though so the o2 can fit. They come in packs of 2 and you would need 2 per side as you have to stack them. Alternatively on eBay there are o2 non foulers that are ready to screw in, no drilling or stacking needed.

Complete Street Performance in West Chester, PA can do it. I think he charges $100 or so. Shoot him an e-mail: http://completestreetperformance.com/services/index.htm
