problem with the 02 Monte's headlights

ok so the daytime running lights are screwed up, and its throwing a code #B2647 Ambient Light Sensor Circuit Low. the DRL's are supposed to turn off when the car is in park and back on when put into drive, there always on, no matter if its light or dark out or wat position the headlight switch is in. we took it to the dealer and surprise "we couldnt find anything wrong with it, all we can do is start replacing very expesnive parts" great, we took it to our mechanic and he told us wat it needs but he wont attemp it lol. so now we gotta go back to the dealer and explain the problem to them. if anyone has any idea how to fix this or how hard it is to do, id rather do it myself.
