getting close to entering and getting a new ride

a short time before graduation i went to the recruiter to enlist in the air force as i had planned on for a long time only to be told that i was to heavy and would need to loose almost 40 pounds to enter
at my height of 5'11" i have to be 198 lbs to enter and at the time i was 236.4
at first i was so knocked down by this that i didn't do anything until about a month ago friday morning i got on the scale and it read 210.8 so i lost more than half the weight and hope that i would be at my goal by thanks giving and be done with the process by the end of the year and waiting on my deployment
so with that said i will hopefully be an aircraft mechanic while i am in and i will be doing a 6 year hitch giving me a direct bump in pay to e3 which is in the area of $1600 a month which is not bad considering that they pay for my food housing medical and cloths so i will have that money to do as i please with and I'm hoping to be stationed in the states so i can have a car to use when i get a chance and relax even if it just to go to the store so i am between a new camaro ss - wrx/sti - ralliart/evo and a few other things that catch my eye but the ss and the wrx/sti is the top 3 what does everyone think on new car in that range and if I'm making the right move
thanks

going to basic is not "deployment", just saying.

$1600 before taxes, SGLI, GI bill, etc...

The military isn't all that you may think it is. But then again, it is the air force, kinda the best choice if you are really gonna serve.

even a used new camaro SS plus insurance is not gonna be cheap.

Even without any bills it would be a squeeze to have gas, payment and insurance on a new camaro.
Figure you'd bring home about $1,200ish a month. Now figure in $600-800 in payments and insurance if you are a young guy wanting to drive a new sports car and factor in your credit rating as well.

I gross right around 3 grand a month before OT. I virtually have zero bills other than fuel, insurance, phone, daily tobacco usage, $15 for food each day, no vehicle payments. I would not want a payment on a $40,000 vehicle and full coverage on said vehicle. Could I swing it? Perhaps, but I like not just getting by making ends meet and have no money to do anything fun.

Let's say I spend roughly $40 a day between bills, fuel, food, tobacco. I pocket $110 5 out of 7 days a week which means I only make about $2,200 a month after taxes, fees, and dues. Quickly multiply $40 x 30 days in your average month and you get $1,200 a month in overhead. Dang, that's depressing... I need a new job lol.

im not saying the car has to be factory new i mean the newer style like 2010+ for both cars 09+ 370z would i like a new car yeah who wouldn't but theres other ways to buy maybe certified who knows certified you get the best of both worlds warranty and save but i don't think a warranty other than a few months is needed bc by then you will know what the car needs and i don't plan on keeping it stock

Getting a car with a payment right before you enter military service would be crazy. Wait until you are settled down, and have a *good* handle on your day to day expenses before you saddle yourself with a car payment.

2010 ss's are going fo 27-30k used all day long. I'd wait until you get out of basic and get assigned to an area. You could get assigned to a region w/more snow so a camaro may not be a choice vehicle. Next year this time you could very well be down south and a camaro is another year older...even cheaper to afford.

You won't even need a car for a while. My friend went to basic around memorial day. After he graduated he was here for 9 days, went back to combat school and then he was sent to California for 6 months of training. They just let him off base this weekend and it's his second or third week there. So think about that before you buy a 32k car that will sit around for a year or so just depreciating.

Why not lease a 2011 dmax, get a trailer and get the 2013 trans am when it comes out?

im in a similar situation youre in. i just got a really good paying job and now im making cash ive never made before. my advice is listen to what the other guys are saying. being a young man, you have no idea where you'll be in a year, especially with being in the military. i understand the whole allure of being young and having a sweet car, but thats not all there is to it. figure you pay 30k for a new camaro..taxes right off the bat would be 2100 bucks..the taxes alone are already a months pay and then some. factor gas, insurance, maintenance and repairs, etc. and all for what, a new sports car. my advice to you is either buy an older car and fix it up, or start saving and see where you're at in a year or wait till your settled down.

i say im in a similar situation because my job is up in the mountains and i only have a camaro..it would be a pain in the ass getting there in the winter. so im looking at jeeps. it came down between buying a crappy used jeep or buying a newer one and making payments. i, like another post already said, like not living to make ends meet, id like to have some extra cash to have fun. so with that being said, im going to buy a cheaper used jeep then putting myself into debt with a newer flashy one.

All seems to be a solid plan of attack. Good luck on achieving your goals and good luck with your plans of service to the country.

Agreed. Live it up while you are young. Drive fast, take a lot of risks.
