Jeep people
Finally a rumor that has come true! May have to trade mine in for this bad boy. If you have driven an older unlimited automatic you know why!

Yea, Pentastar was destined for the JK from the time they first released it.
Still not a fan of the JK at all, especially with the new interior. Way too many electronic gizmos in something that I'm gonna go ford rivers with / drive in the rain with the top off in / otherwise treat like a Jeep should be treated.

Well for someone who doesn't work for them, yes! I have heard stories for years about a change and didn't believe it until I went into a dealer two weeks ago and they actually had one there. I read forums all the time but they are not always correct, now that I have seen one, I am a believer!
On a side note, where do you work?

Like justin said, not a fan of JKs. I think they are overpriced for what you get. Hell, even TJs and some YJs are overpriced. The huge aftermarket is what jeep has going
For them.

Give me back the bulletproof 4.0 inline six. Those motors did not die, ever.

Tru2Chevy likes this.
The '92 Cherokee I'm driving every day has 244k on the original untouched 4.0....still runs like a champ!

That's how all drag races should be. One in front of the other.

just rented/drove two different 2011 wranglers in hawaii. it did feel like an elephant on the highway... but a smooth elephant (not bouncy and ratteling like my 1995).. worked real well on the off road stuff we did tho. but wow 285 hp on the new ones.. i now am interested in the 2012 as well

They are like every other company trying to survive these days. Sure there are a lot of "Jeep" people if thats what you want to call it but now that they offer a 4 door version and a more refined interior, they attract a wider variety of people. As carish as it may look compared to older Jeeps, it is just as capable offroad. I had no problem keeping up with older Jeeps, some couldn't keep up with me. The only negative exterior wise, if you wanted to knit pick is that it has a wider stance and things get a little tighter for JK's. The factory ride height is taller to begin with so that also helps when taking off road. I am not knocking the older Jeeps, just defending the new ones. I for one am just glad they changed the engine and trans, more power and an extra gear is definitely needed in the unlimited.

Justin how many miles of the 240k are from you? Would a 97 with 124k on the clock for $3000 be a good deal? It looks like its in great shape..

245k now, and only the last ~3k are from me. Just started driving this one in the spring.
My '96 I bought in the summer of '07 with 84k on it and it has ~140k now, mostly been sitting since the spring, just driven once every couple of weeks to keep the fluids moving until I can take it apart (major rust issues).
Price sounds appropriate for a '97 with that mileage as long as it is in good shape. Get under it and do a very thorough inspection for rust before you buy, also check the rocker panels closely, they tend to rust fairly easily. Do you have plans for a lift and some offroading, or just a DD that's great in the snow?

Test drove a new 2012 "sport" recently, was very impressed with it. I've never been into Jeeps myself, yet I understand why the "old" jeep crowd doesn't like the JK. The highlight of the 2012 is the new 3.6 V6. It feels pretty peppy. The overall ride is much more smooth and quiet than previous generations of Jeeps I've been in. Under-hood things are very tight and cramped. Not something you'd look forward to fixing/working on.
The info I looked up online had the 2011 (3.8) doing 0-60 in 9-10 seconds and quarter mile in 17-18 seconds. The 2012 (3.6) does 0-60 in about 6.7 sec and does low 15's in the quarter mile. This is test info for the Wrangler, not the Wrangler Unlimited. The additional power changes things significantly.
