Replacing Battery Cables

After fiddling around with the positive battery terminal, I happened to turn the thing upside down... and had all kinds of yellowish dust come out. Now the car wont start, so I am assuming its the battery terminal.

The cables are actually two bound together, a fat one and a thin one. I see where the thin one goes, but where does the fat cable connect to? Should I replace the whole cable, or just the terminal / rubber boot? There isn't a hole lot of slack available to keep cutting back on the wire.

if you are talking about the postive battery cable it goes down to the starter, probably a good idea to replace it and there only 15-20 bucks.
