Mufflers mufflers mufflers!
Lets play pick a muffler.
SBC 350, long tube headers, pair of 3 inch cats, then a 3 inch X pipe, and, I need some muffler ideas.
I am looking for mellow idle, and something that will not set off car alarms.
Super turbos, or chambered, have been what I've been looking at.

From WBT's thread on 3 inch summit ultraflows, I think they will be too loud.
http://www.njfboa.org/forums/showthr...ghlight=summit
I am open to ideas.

I have Dyno Max Ultra Flow's on my Nova and for a race car they are quite. I did not lose anything e.t. wise from open headers to the 3" inlet/outlet mufflers. If the Summit Ultra Flow's are Dyno Max without the name, I say DO IT!

Well, quiet as in... able to DD without worry from cops etc? Or quiet as in, not as loud as open headers?

They are quite for a DD. My ex boss liked the sound so much he ditched his Flowmasters and got a set. 500 hp 383 in his Chevelle, he said he actually enjoys driving it now. His is much quieter because he has a full exhaust, I just have 18" pipe off the header into the muffler with a turndown. I would say you could hear them for yourself but they dont come out of hibernation for a few more weeks!

No cheesy ricer mufflers, you can put em of your slow LS1 car and use it as an excuse when I beat that car too.
Pypes violators just by their name sound too loud for my wants.

they pypes are quiet at idle and normal driving, but loud when you put your foot in it.

Other than them being quite pricey, and while I do not want a very loud car, I certainly don't want a car that sounds and smells like a prius.
So I am hoping that with cats, the summit ultra flows will sound nice. If not, we kick Nick in the shins for bad advice.

dynomax ultra-flo's would be my choice. You have heard my car with the cutout closed and it makes noise but its pretty tame IMO. I had a magnaflow muffler on the car before and that was really loud. Unless you really get on it, they keep a relatively calm rumble.

Ok, you are added to the list of people whose shins get kicked if this thing is too loud...

That's fine. I will take that chance only because you really don't have much of an option otherwise. Unless you want to put my G8 GT stock muff with all kinds of sound deadening material, the car is still going to rumble.
At least try to angle the pipes a bit away from the ground. It will help slightly with the sound echoing off the ground.

At this point I have no idea which ones I wanna get. Do not want to gamble on the summit ultraflows and have them be way to loud.

I had the Summit 3" turbo mufflers on my 70 SS396 and you could actually talk to a passenger with the windows down on the highway so they weren't bad at all. I think their mufflers are made by Dynomax, either blanks or blems. I would think the Ultra Flos will flow better though.

Hmn, from the dynomax book at work, with duals, their best superturbo should flow enough to support the engine without loss. But, I do not know if I trust that.
hence the predicament... do not want a muffler that is gonna hold me back but do not want a way to loud setup.
