Need recommendation on engine rebuilder with GM LS motor experience

Can you provide a recommendation on an engine rebuilder who has experience with GM LS motors?. My daily driver is a 2005 GTO with ~ 111,000 miles and I need to find an engine rebuilder who has expertise in LS motors (long story). On the Internet I found a rebuilder in Patterson “Promar Precision Engine Rebuilders” but am not sure how ‘expert’ they are with LS motors. If you can’t provide a recommendation, do you have knowledge about Promar?

Thanks

Tom-

The LS2 is a stout motor. Why do you want to rebuild the motor?

I dont know how good promar with LS motor, but promar buys A LOT of wholesale parts from me at my dealer(crysler, dodge, jeep) and they always seem to buy stacked up with jobs. next time they call ill ask if they frequently do LS motors.

eastcoastsupercharging.com They work on a ton of ls series motors (speciality shop). Also there was a write up recently in some mag where some company turbo'd a stock ls to see at what point it would blow...made like 1000+hp and still going strong....rock solid bottom end.

Thanks for the quick replies folks. The Goat is my daily driver with more than 111,000 miles. She's been living with a rattling sound which I think is coming from the valve train for more than a year which I think is slowly getting worse. I'm thinking the rattle could be a bad lifter as I have replaced the rocker arms with Comp Golds & went to a smaller pushrod (a deceased shop previously installed a Comp cam with .610 lift & LS7 lifters). Also for the last year or so the Goat has had inconsistent oil pressure at idle - ranges from 35/40 psi (normal) to 15/20 and occasionally lower (scary when sitting in traffic on the way home from work!). I suspect past sloppy workmanship included debris falling in the oil passages with some trapped in the oil pump's pressure relief valve causing the valve to stick open.

Because she now has over 111,000 miles the timing of a rebuild might not be 100% premature.

Mike and the crew at Thrust Performance in Sayreville are great. Drove past today and they had 4 lsx cars (2 vettes, a goat, and a camaro) up in the air, preparing for the first race weekend in a couple of weeks...

I've gone to Thrust for an alignment and ended up with new tie rods and ball joints as well. The guys are great and really took the time to go through my car to show me some issues it had. I don't know if I would bring my car there for an engine rebuild though as they seem to be more of a tire shop.

Tom- it sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I'm willing to bet my marbles that the shop that did your cam swap was TTP. I had them do my motor in 08 and they did awful work, and were wildly unprofessional. The shop that has done nearly all my drivetrain work since TTP (mostly to remedy their mistakes) has been JS Performance in PA (a sponsor). Mind you, I live about 20 minutes north of you, I still made the trip down there when I needed a new clutch last year. He's a great guy to deal with. Charlie at SSP is another stand up guy that I have dealt with in the past, and is a great LS motor builder.

The fact is, our sponsors are reputable. I've been in your boat with shoddy work, and I'm selective now with who I let work on my car. Before making a decision, confer with those guys first.

Personally I would not look for somebody "in your area" as a limiting factor, because if you get a headache from a local shop that will far outweigh any cost or inconvenience of traveling to a reputable place.

JMO.

This is what I was trying to say. I went to TTP out of convenience. The result was not very convenient at all.

SSP isn't too far. I work in the town past it and it takes me about half hour to get to work from Mahwah. With 111k on your goat, it seems like you are no stranger to long commutes, either.
