2nd gen coil overs

Who makes coil overs for the 2nd gen? I looked over at Nastyz during work but the search didnt work

Go to local circle track shop and make your own set up. Pick Bilstein valvings right out of the catalog, grab the appropriate coil over kit, and a set of hyper coils in the spring rate of your choice.

Lawrence Engineering keeps the coil kits and a variety of springs from several manufacturers in stock, it would just be a matter of getting the right valving.

Can you just plate the bottom of the arm like the Porsche crowd does on their classics? Look up suspension stuff for 914's, it is one of the first things they all do.

Just looked it up. Get yourself some 3/16" or 1/4" plate from Trenton Sheet Metal, it looks very easy.

Yes. Make sure you have good quality bolts as well.



Scooter,

QA1 makes a coilover kit you can use. I think Rat 427 has them over on NastyZ- I bought mine from him when he realized that he had bought the first gen ones instead of the second gen parts.

Thanks Billy. I remembered you said something at dinner the one night, I was hoping you would reply. I am not sure which way I want to go yet but like Scott always tells me, do my research.
If I go coil over I will probably just reinforce the lower control arm. This will be one of the decisions I will need to make closer to the end of the project when I know the weight of the car. I may go weight jacks though...... indecisive and still dreaming for now.

Surprisingly I have a QA1/Carerra catalog on my desk.

Second gen Pro coil is

Single Adjustable:
PN GMP3250-3 for 250# spring
PN GMP3350-3 for 350# spring
PN GMP3450-3 for 450# spring
PN GMP3550-3 for 550# spring

Double Adjustable:
PN DGMP3250-3 for 250# spring
PN DGMP3350-3 for 350# spring
PN DGMP3450-3 for 450# spring
PN DGMP3550-3 for 550# spring

I use Aldan Eagle. they are well known in the racing community and their service and product is great. all made in USA too. Ferrel is the man to talk to. you will need at least a 600lb spring. more like close to 700. their shocks have 27 settings on them.

if you go too light, you will need to tight the coil adjuster up really far and experience coil bind. you wlll also need a top that will clear the upper stock coil spring retainer and still allow sufficient travel. or you can just cut that out of the subframe.

I don't know springs that well but those numbers sound high. Ill be running an LS1 and CF hood

DSE does for their subframe, IIRC. Alston sells varishocks, so I'm sure they have something.

Too bad....I sold my coil overs not too long ago....

Still have some 700lb linear rate springs....I wanted to make sure the car didn't bounce too much

Yeah you would need some stiff springs witha big block under the hood.
I am really most concerned that a front coil over won't bend/tear a stock frame. I see for the first gen setup ATS and DSE(I think) weld new mounts at the top for the shock. I think this would be the best way to do this rather than using bushings like stock uses. I also think I am going to see if koni has a solution for the front since if I getthe quadra link in the rear it uses a koni coil over
