Detroit locker. Bullet proof. I loved the one i had in my TA. Spools take some getting used to but they're not that bad on the street.

I have a 9" in my camaro with an Eaton Truetrac and 4.11 gears. I like it, besides the mild gear whine. I really just wanted to share this video of how the Eaton Truetrac works, the video is well done and it easily shows how it works.

With that being said I will never mess with an LSD again. How much street driving are you planning on doing? Spools really are not bad on the street at all, most of the people who say that you can't drive them on the street have never actually driven them on the street. If you're not looking to rip through every turn and you know you're not going to autox/road race just get a spool and never look back.

i dont do that much street driving, its mostly just leisure driving on the street, but i dont wanna lose the ability to give my car a "spirited drive" now and again so im still up in the air.

In other news i got the axles in the other day, which is pretty exciting. The bearings/seals (not really sure which they are) fell out of the packaging inside the box, so i hope they're ok. It didnt really come with instructions on how to install them on the shafts. Do they even go on the shaft or do they go on the housing?

They get pressed on the axle shafts, put the backing plates on the axle shaft first!

No issues with mine, I love it. Drives like stock around town, acts like a spool when locked up. I followed the break in instructions and fluid recommendations to a "t" tho.

Doesn't seem like there are many issues with them which is why I was so bummed when it failed on me twice.

How often do you race the car and what's your setup?

so i bit the bullet and went with the wave trac ... again no instructions really =/ what fluid did you use in yours b4c? and what kinda break in and other pertinent information do i need to know (if you dont mind me picking your brain).

In other news i also ordered an sjm linelock/abs delete kit, a straight throttle cable and a bmr tunnel mount torque arm with d/s safety loop.

Next on the list is tires, im kinda tossed between nitto nt05r's and some E.T. streets, so any input is always appreciated.

I used non synthetic with no lsd additive...could only find it at advance auto. The gears came with brake in instructions.

If anyone else is interested in getting their hands dirty feel free to pm me, ill send you my address. There will also be at the very least one case of yuengling (probably more) and I would be happy to share with anyone who feels like getting involved.

Your going to have to do some drilling...shock mount holes are too small, as is the hole for the Panhard bolt. Depending on your torque arm you might have to do some grinding on the mount...

ok, thanks for the heads up. That's kind of bothersome considering the fact that the housing is designed for my year car, and the incredible amount of money i paid for the thing, i would think it would all mount right up. I guess we'll see what happens when i get their.

anyone have any input on how much of a difference it will make not having a rear sway bar in? im up in the air on purchasing the mount kit, especially because idk the dia. of the stock sway bar, or the axle housing.

Ok so just to update, I got the rear up under the car and have the lca's bolted on. Still have to drill out the holes for the shock mount, and PHB.

As far as the brakes go, the line lock is all installed, just needs to be wired up.

The tunnel mount torque arm was giving me problems because the bolts wouldn't thread in, so I wound up tapping out the holes to 5/16 x 1.25 thread. Now I just need to locate some 5/16 fine thread grade 8 bolts (proving to be a hassle) and that should slip right in ... hopefully.

If anyone is ever in the area, and feels like turning some wrenches feel free to send me a message and ill send you my number. This install has been quite a pain considering im doing most of it solo.

not sure about a Fastenal, ill look into it, and thanks blackbird, I'm hoping to locate them locally as I would like to get these problems done and out of the way today... but if not ill be ordering from online.

My only question is that the tap I used was, like I said, 5/16 x 1.25 thread. Apparently 1.25 thread is a metric measurement. I'm pretty sure that that would convert to fine thread in a standard bolt, but if someone could confirm my suspicions that would be great.

IDK what the "x 1.25" means, usually that would mean you want a 5/16 threaded bolt, 1.25 inch long. It wouldn't make a lot of sense ot have a STD thread mixed with metric denoting

Any more details on teh tap?

This fit the bill?

I am assuming it's 5/16" -24 x 1.25

that does seem to fit the bill, I found a trucking supply store in Elmwood park that says they have what I am looking for, looks like ill be making a stop their after work.

the tap merely says 5/16 x 1.25. I can only assume the 1.25 is referring to the pitch of the thread. It is a blue point tap kit, so its not a cheap set.

So i have another update on how things are going.

The rear is all the way in and bolted onto everything. The only things left to do are to install the drives shaft, measure and adjust the angles, and install the brakes. Ive learned my new rear didn't come with provisions for the brake line brackets, so I'm gonna have to do some Jerry rigging to get it all hooked up. I'm hoping down the road to weld it to the housing, unless anyone thinks that's a bad idea. One way or another i hope to have the car off the stands and driving by tomorrow.
