Possible Classified Rules Changes

Please read this over before voting in the poll.

Option #1: Keep the Classified Rules exactly as they are.

Option #2: Change the Classified Rules to allow members to list items for sale that belong to family and / or friends. The member who lists the item(s) must be able to answer basic questions about the item(s), and serve as the point of contact throughout the transaction. Also, we will not be editing / removing poor iTrader ratings if the person who you are listing the item(s) for does not provide a smooth end to the transaction.

What about option 2 edited to include its 6 months before access to classifieds vs. the usual spam way to 50 posts?

We have discussed a change to the current 6 month / 50 posts rule, but we aren't addressing it with this poll.

I say keep it the same. Playing the middle man can get ugly for all parties involved. The person doing the posting could look REALLY bad if said friend/family member/neighbor turns out to be a douche nozzle and screws up the transaction.

Besides, is it really that hard to get access to a PC? If the family member/friend wants to list things that bad maybe they could register and PM an admin and discuss the chances of posting an ad on a per case basis. Just a suggestion.

I'm pretty certain there are/have been many items listed in the classifieds that are not sold by the owner themself. I know first hand as a buyer I have bought at least one item that was not owned by the person who listed it. I think the rule change is more about giving more responsibility to the member for poor transactions rather than blaming the message board for allowing the transaction to happen.

Exactly. We know that people sell for others and just list it as their own anyway.

Example: somebody was selling a car on here a few months ago and said it was his own. Lets say his name was John. The album linked to for pictures of the car had the caption "Mike's Camaro" in it, under "John's Albums" and was a new upload. Gee, I wonder...

Because people are going to sell other peoples **** either way, and option 2 puts a greater responsibility on the seller.

Just revisiting some of the rules that are in place to make sure they are still what we want.

Yea I guess, I would put up big bold disclaimer up then (not that people read rules, FAQs etc..) and make sure NJFBOA does not get caught in the middle of a deal gone bad etc.

That is already stated in the rules.

go with option 2. To whoever dislikes the middleman idea, well i have a solution for you. Dont be the middleman and just worry about yourself!! its that simple !

If people list something thats a family/friends etc. they are just going to say its there's just to get it up there. And just because it isnt theres doesnt mean they cant answer basic questions about it lol...How would you beable to tell ? Im sure it happens often. I would just leave things the way they are.

The problem now is that it is against the rules to do that. It seems the rule is very difficult to enforce and easy to get around, like you say. The only way to enforce it is to have some type of evidence the item belongs to the member, or to have moderators do investigative work, which is more trouble than its worth. It would be much easier to place the responsibility on the shoulders of the members involved in the transaction.

I think option 2 is good . BUT...... I think that there should be a recourse for the person listing for another person if deal goes sour,

like, no ads for 6mths or 30 suspension.something along those lines, if its a bad deal or legit problem with the purchase

if people are gonna list items not owned by them, least this would make them think twice about listing them for sale, and keep the shady b.s. to a minimum.

If we found someone intentionally and repeatedly attempting to defraud members, then action would be taken on our part, but otherwise we generally stay out of all classified transactions. The iTrader Rating system allows you to provide feedback (positive or negative) about your transactions with each buyer or seller.

I dont see option 2 as a bad thing, however, i think that a requirement to go along with that would be the actual owners name and VALID contact info, email AND phone. That way a possible buyer can contact the seller directly. Having a 3rd party relay info can take time and things can get misinterpreted. The 3rd party would post pics and description, and contact info and then really let the buyer take it from there. not let the thread get to be pages of posts. thats just my opinion.
