AFAIK, no 3rd gen header system bolts up to the stock y pipe, all setups require their own y pipe or a custom one.

3rd gens has stock (as in OE/GM) headers? I thought they all had manifolds, except SLP cars.

Do you have a stick & does that matter with short headers? I understand it, 2nd gens with sticks can’t use them, but the clutch linkage is mechanical in a 2nd gen and (I think) hydraulic in a 3rd – so maybe it doesn’t matter. Just asking.

all 3rd gen shorties pass under the oil pan and clear the clutch if stick, BUT no one that i could find makes a longtube header for a stick 3rd gen, the hydraulic slave is right in the way.

If you look for somethign , id suggest buy soemthign that comes with its own y pipe as well, i know flowtech says they have a 3rd gen f body y pipe, i tried modifying it for my monte but the flowtech "g body" headers themselves didnt even fit....so i dunno. most people dont like edelbrock, but they fit great, them or slp id suggest.

I had SLP shorty headers on my 87 GTA (L98/auto). great fit, but I also had an aftermarket Y-pipe (I was told it was an SLP Y). I'm pretty sure anything that wasn't stock on my GTA was from SLP.

Third! stay away from flowtechs and used headers all together. Better off spending the extra cash for new headers. I learned the hard way. I dunno if you've come down the street at all Frank, but my car's on jackstands in the driveway awaiting hooker super comp long tubes. (and some paint/rust work lol)

If you are looking for a long tube to fit a specific application call Lemon's headers, they make everything custom.. As far as shorties go I would reccomend MAC or Hooker headers.

weird my headers on my 84 m5 fit.... they rubbed and were a bitch and a half to get in but they were on there... i think they were headman's not sure though. i bought flowtechs before the headmans they didnt even come close to fitting, had to return them. the 3 bolt connections are worthless imo though i had 2 nuts on each bolt still they didnt hold.
