trans swap

during the summer i had some trans problems and it looks like my 700r4 needs a rebuild. i'm toying with the idea of doing a 5 speed swap, but i know it's a lot of work. just wondering if anyone has any feed back. Also i'm due for inspection will a t-5 swap kill my chances

I went from a TH700-R4 to T56 back in 2001 and wouldn't go back to auto.

I'll concede that the auto was more fun at the drag strip, but autox and road course are much more fun for me than drag racing.

No imaginable reason why a manual trans would interfere with inspection.

I wouldn't recommend a T5 with your engine, unless it's an upgraded version that can hold up to the extra output.

You'll want a chip with manual-trans calibration, or your idle will be funky. Come to a stop, idle hangs at ~1500rpm for a few seconds before returning to normal.

What's done to the 350? T5 is rated up to 300 ft lbs of torque

see if you can get a bundled swap setup. Usually cheaper then piecing it all together. Pedals, master, slave, trans, clutch, crossmember, flywheel, console, etc.....

yup...and a stock 350 TPI is rated at 345tq.

Definitely go with an aftermarket T5 or a T56. Talk to Bob from Hanlon Motorsports. He has tons of experience building both of these transmissions.

There you go. I believe Bob was upgrading T5s well before the TKO's came out.

It should last you for a little while as long as you are gentle with it. Get a little spirited, and you will prolly toast it quick.

As long as it was rebuilt with good parts, it should last quite a while as long as you don't powershift it or run sticky tires.
