The V6 tranny has a different spline count and weaker internals than a V8 trans.

wait .... so its possible to have a T5 weaker then it already is???

bellhousing would be different also (which unbolts from trans itself, but just saying)

well the V6 has a different gear set and can handle betwine 200-250flbs torque the V8 T-5 has a Higher 1st gear and can handle a 305 at best, a 350 would tear a T-5 apart in a matter of days

dude if you Google tremec theres a site that breaks down the difference

That depends an awful lot on which T5 it is, as well as what 350 you are talking about, and also the way it is driven.

You can make a T5 last behind a mildly built 350 for years if you don't abuse it.

Not worth the effort in my opinion. It would work but would not last long, even if you didn't wail on it.

dude you can't be serious, ya know what, just put the V6 tranny in your can so we can all laugh at you when your transmission ends up being a metal shaving soup. If you going to play with that 350, listen to the people that you've asked, don't waist your time, unless your going to spend extra $$$ and get a rebuilt world class T-5. now if your thinking your going to use the T-5 from your brothers 3.4 your out of your god damn mind

the parts you need to adapt a v6 T5 to fit on a v8 will cost more than the propper replacement v8 t5. Dont bother, not wirth the time for any reason.

And a t5 will hold up behind a lot of power, just so long as you use the clutch and baby it.

I don't know about that. I have a buddy that put a T-5 behind a mildly warmed TBI 350 in his 86 El Camino. He is making about 275-300 hp to the wheels and beats the ever living snot out of it. It has survived there for 3 years. The car started out with a 2.56 one legger but, for the last 2.5 years its had a 3.55 posi.

hell just need a V8 bell housing..., the trans cases are the same, just different gear sets, but a V6 1st gear would make that car launch like its got 4.56 gears

If it has an auto now, forget the V6 T5. Too much work for a POS trans (it may be too much work for the POS V8 version LOL). Hold out for the right stuff. Save lots of nickles and buy a T56 or TKO trans. Go search www.thirdgen.org for ideas.

what about swapping in the new input shaft to match the v8 spline count? Or are we going to try to use a crappy v6 clutch?

IMO, a T5 will last if you don't powershift or put sticky tires on and try to launch it at the track. Knock on wood, my rebuilt WC T5 has been just fine behind the ZZ4-cammed TPI 355 in my car for over a year. And, it survived a few years behind the built TPI 305 (223hp/277 ft.lbs at the wheels) before that just fine. I hope to get another few years out of this T5, then upgrade to a Tremec when $$ falls from the sky or we hit the Lottery.

At least one a week I am tempted to sell my T56 and buy one.

The clutch I just ordered for my 3.4 is good for 600ft/lbs torque, and they are the same spline count...26

Kid, dont even waste your time on a swap. take the money and get a STALL CONVERTER instead. Im freaking tellin' you- You DO NOT want to go manual. swapping it will be a bit of work, too much money spent on parts and too much time fixing those parts when they break.
