Transmission replacement
Hello everyone! It seems I got my car with a weird bogging feel to it. It got alittle better so i thought it was old gas or dirty fuel injector.. well I was wrong
The transmission is slipping.. And now It only shift first, second, then slips in third and goes into neutral .. It used to hard shift into second and smooth into third.. then mess up in forth and third.. Took it. got it serviced and it's still stuck in second.. and it's gotten worse! so I think the transmission is done with.. soo now onto the next problem..
What kinda transmission should I put in it? Jasper? GM Performance ?... Rebuild it??? Whats everyones experience with replacing or fixing 4L60E transmissions???

probably over $1k to have it rebuilt, including removal/install. if you can, you could buy a built 4l60e from say performabuilt and do it yourself.
always can look for a partout as well.

I am bringing it to a shop to get the transmission done if that helps any... I'm not going to do it myself (hell no i don't have the right tools or knowledge for that!) Just wondering if a rebuild would be more pricey then ordering a re-manufactured one?

going rate at a trans shop around here is around $1200-$1500 for a rebuild... depending on how bad it really is... they did my brothers trans in his diesel e-350 van for about $1200 but that was also with a little bit of a hook up because we use them all the time at our shop and we said it was from my shop...

4l60e's can be pricey if hard parts are bad. (sun shell, planetaries, etc...)
let me know if you need it done. I can help you out.
anywhere between $750-$1500 depending what parts are bad.
its $250.00 to pull it and inspect it to find out whats wrong and how much its gonna be to rebuild
i have a pro built 4l60e all billet parts , sunshell, 5 pinion planetaries, billet servos, shift kit etc... but only for ls1 style (300mm shaft) 97 down takes 295mm shaft.
let me know what year/car you have

If you just want to get the car back on the road, look for a used one with relatively low mileage or one that has been rebuilt (and has paperwork to prove it). Since your car is mostly stock, I wouldn't worry about finding one that has been rebuilt with aftermarket parts - that will ratchet up the cost quickly.

For daily use in a near-stock car, you shouldn't have any problems. They also offer a 3 year / 100k mile warranty with their units. Not sure how much one would cost you though, and I assume that paying a mechanic to remove your trans and replace it with a rebuilt Jasper would be pretty pricey.

Well the guys that wanna do it for me want to give me a discount since they know my ex and that he screwed me over with the whole car and everything... so I don't know... I'll see. My car is just a daily driver. She doesn't get beat on. She's not for racing or anything

I'm a little unsure if i want anyone to rebuild it or just replace it.. it was smoking and burning itself I can imagine it's damaged pretty badly at this point..

for the record, unless you buy an absolutely new unit from GM (not even sure you can anymore) anything you get is rebuilt to some degree. it's just a matter of what parts are replaced.

GM performance sells them from anywhere between 1700 - 2000 dollars... They are still available, 4L60E transmissions.

might as well get a performabuilt. as you know, stockers suck and break with stock cars. performabuilt is cheaper and better.

i'm just looking at it from a neutral stand. you are shelling out more money for a stock trans. this is a built trans for less money. is that not win win?

The smoking and burning would be from the clutch packs they get replaced anyway when the trans is rebuilt. Unless there's huge chunks of metal in the pan I would say it's fine to rebuild. How do you think Jasper does it they would just take your trans and rebuilt it then sell it. My friend had 3 Jasper motors in his truck all leaked coolant from the intake so I wouldn't use them.

I've installed about 15-20 Jasper units. Haven't had any problems with anything from them. I put a Jasper engine in my car and it has been running perfect since I installed it in 2005. I've heard some bad things about Jasper but my personal experience with them has been good.
I installed a GM Reman 4T65E about 2 weeks ago and had to send it back, as soon as I started the car something in the side cover started making all kinds of noise. GM sent us another trans and that one worked out good.
