Thumbs down ignition

hey guys i have a 1991 rs camaro and i lost my key for it i switched it from a 305 tbi to a 350 carb..when i buy the ignition do i still need the 91 ignition or can i get the 87 ignition..i am asking be cause 91 has the chip in the key and the ignition has a wire on it and the 87 dont have the wire..if u go on the autozone site and look up the ignitions for an 87 and 91 u will see what i am talking about can any one help me...

depends on what was removed when the carbed setup was installed, was the computer totaly ditched and what about the VATS?

Yes and no. There are three items to a vats system. The chip or resistor in the key, the vats module and the prom in the ecu. The key sends a singnal to the vats module, if its the right key then the vats module sends a signal to the ecu to allow the car to start. If all that is removed then you can get a new ignition key cylinder and key for a non vats car and install it in exsisting column or just swap out the entire column, buts if you want to get rid of the air bag as well.
