cluster question

in my friends 00 formula, the cluster says it has 158kish on it. however when we plugged in an obd2 scanner in autoshop the ecu said 98kish. which one is right? my friend says the cluster is but i think the cluster got switched with 50+k on it. he says the on the digital ones the ecu sends a signal to the readout to show how many miles

I am pretty sure that the odometer in the cluster is a stand alone unit and has no relation to the ECM

mileage is stored seperately in the cluster. The display you see on the dash has NOTHING to do with any data stored on the ecm or bcm.

thats what i thought, otherwise anyone could just plug a cluster in a low mileage car and set it down that much lower....so my friend paid 5500 for a 6 spd. ttop ls1, in great shape, that really only has like 99k on it, and could of sold for like 9k

i love it

for some reason though i didnt think bcm/ecm stored mileage... i cant see it with HPtuners scanner. maybe Bill can chime in here since he knows the ecms pretty well.

did you check to see if the VIN in the ecm matched the car?
