Modification to shifter to get first gear?

I read it somewhere and cannot find it now.

I have a beater Trans Am with an A4 w/ 2:73's.

I've read somewhere that there is something under the center console that can be removed to allow the shifter to be put in first gear.

Anyone have a pic or link on this?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

1) Pop off the plastic cover around the shifter.
2) Under it you will see a plastic pin the blocks the shifter from being pulled down to D1.
3) Take a hacksaw blade and cut it off.
4) Reinstall cover
5) start car
6) select D1
7) Mash gas!

The f-bodies with 2.73 gears and automatic transmissions could be down shifted into first at the speed of the decibel test and, therefore fail the government test. GM made it impossible to down shift into first so they would pass the test.
