Thinking of going auto.

I have always wanted to get into bracket racing. And as im not perfect im not 100% consistant with a manual. I love driving a manual transmission but the traffic around here that i deal with going to and from work is making it less and less fun.

So that being said im thinking about switching to automatic i feel there is more advantages of doing this. Less frustration in traffic, alot easier on the rest of the drivetrain like my still stock 10 bolt lol.

Only thing i really cant figure out is which tranny to go with ive heard 4l60e's can be built pretty strong but it isnt exactly the best choice.

I was thinking either a 4l80e or a Th400. Id much rather have the overdrive as i do like to go on long cruises from time to time so the overdrive would help with that.

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone is looking to buy or trade for an m6 setup let me know

BTW the car is a 2001 ws6 full bolt ons, trex cam

4l80 would be nice and your pcm can be programed to control it. i believe they just put the trans tables from a truck on it. th400 would be better for racing and significantly lighter (about 100lbs) but you don't have overdrive. could do a th400 with a gear vendors unit though.

what kind of power do you plan on making?

currently putting down 401 at the wheels, down the line plan on spraying a 100-150 shot.

it seems like you are probably best off with a 4l80e, ive been lookin into a th400 or a 4l80e too and they are both strong the only big difference is the weight and overdrive for those long cruises if i remember right...but i also think that the 97 and newer 4l80s were stronger that the prior years...but if you go 4l60 i got one in my car right now rebuilt like a yearish ago

you're not putting down any kind of crazy numbers that a properly built 4L60 shouldnt be able to handle, if you were talking a car with 500 to the wheels with a 200-300 shot on it that would be a different story. has the car been dynoed? make sure you provide who ever does your stall with all of the info on your setup to make sure you get the proper stall speed

Yea this is what i read on ls1tech posted it there too to hear from some sponsors aswell. Was just double checking because of buddy of mine has had his 4l60e go three times so far on his nearly stock 96 lt1 firebird.

Get it rebuilt right, and install it right. You won't have problems.

While true, my stock slushbox is still kicking, even with a mystery converter in it.

A stage two 4L60E should have no problems if done right.

while i know this is true its still possible to avoid certain problems my 6 speed hasnt given me any problems dont want to step into a 60e and have tons of problems but from what everyone is saying they can be built pretty tough so im gonna go with it
