04 silverado question

my SES light is on in my truck and the display keeps telling me to tighten my fuel cap every so often. I changed the cap, no fix, so its not the cap leaking. Any ideas? I cant scan for codes, dont have the tool. I would rather not take it to the stealership and have the rape me for something stupid.

Its a 2004 silverado SS

Sounds like you've got an EVAP leak somewhere in the system. I'm willing to bet you have a P0455 DTC set. It could be a bad EVAP vent valve, a small hole in an evap line or the tank it self. Alot times I've see the rubber o-ring that seals the fuel pump assembly to the tank leak alittle. You'll have to have a shop smoke test the system.

You can run into Autozone and have them scan the truck to be sure about the code, but it sounds like Rob is on the right track with his diagnosis.

anybody know if there is any wiring involved in this system? there must be, somehow the computer knows about this issue. I had a problem a few months ago with a squirrel/groundhog/lion ect, chewing the wiring harness off my trans, and abs sensors under the truck. It was all fixed, but im wondering if something else was eaten and just recently broke completely and thats causing the issue? Maybe a rubber hose? i really have to get under the truck and look, i just keep forgetting because i dont drive it everyday anymore.
