Oprah is cool

Oprah Surprises Audience With New Cars
Monday, September 13, 2004

CHICAGO — To celebrate the start of her talk show's 19th season, Oprah Winfrey (search) gave everyone in her audience a new car.

She kept the audience in suspense by first giving Pontiac G-6s (search) to just 11 people.

Then she gave out gift boxes to the rest of the audience — who were told one of the boxes contained keys to a 12th car. But when audience members opened the boxes, each had a set of keys.

Audience members screamed and many began crying as Winfrey yelled "everybody gets a car!"

Thats Awesome! G6 is a great car, and another GM car built on the Global Epsilon Chassis. Engines right now are only the 3.5, but early next year it gets the 2.4 4cyl with 175hp and 3.9 V6 making 240hp. 6spd manual will be an option as well. There will also be a coupe and hard top convertable.

Maybe we can email Oprah and tell her we're suffering severe depression from not having a new car and she'll just send us some new cars.

They are fully loaded G6's, all with the supercool panorama sun roof.

Cant wait for the coupe and 3.9 V6 with 6spd. The G6 coupe will be one of the 3 cars to take over the void left by the Firebird.

will never happen as it was because it was based on the last generation body style of grand prix. I also think GM is probably banking on a lot of people who were interested in the G8 being appeased by the GTO or the bonneville GXP

Agreed, you can not fill the void left by the firebird except MAYBE with another firebird. If its up to par with the previous gen.

I wouldnt go that far on saying that the G8 wont come out....well, not on the W body.
With the Hamtrack plant, in where they make the Caddy DTS, Buick LeSaber, and Pontiac Bonnie, is moving to something else..*cough*zeta*cough* and one of teh 3 Oshawa plants are going to Zeta, Both teh W body, and the moddified G body(what the DTS/Bonnie/Saber is on) are out the door. Pontiac will go to an almost all RWD or AWD chassis set up to stay with its performance image. There is even news that Kappa will support a RWD, Ecotec powerd coupe. The news is so good, that Car and Driver quoted GMI on it! 8)

Pontiac WILL offer a RWD/AWD sedan on Zeta, and so far the name will be G8 as Pontiac gets away from naming cars. That, I can say 100% that Pontiac will have a RWD/AWD sedan, as well as the GTO built off Zeta.
The Zeta coupes will be first, as for some reason the news is GM is moving up the release date to the Zeta coupes for 07...hrmm who knows why?
67...07...67...07...Someone say birthday?

Anyway, the G8 as you saw it in the Autoshow wont happen, but there is a good chance that he RWD/AWD sedan will be called G8. The Pontiac Bonnie GXP is more of a place filler till the Zeta sedan hits the market.

i would've taken the car and sold it immediately for slightly higher than the sticker price. then i would have used the money on my car.

She actually didn't spend a dime on any of those cars. They were all donated from GM. We spent a while talking about this in my business class last night.

Yes, Pontiac did give these cars away in probably the best idea Pontiac has come up with in a long time.
No one has control over a large group of people like Oprah. Im sure everyone remebers when she said not to buy beef, and beef sales went into the toilet.
This is a great move. 8 milion dollars, and they got a 1hr infomercial on the G6 that was driven deep into the heads of millions of her fans.

On top of her show, it was on every single news broadcast the next day. I hope to talk about it in class this week. 8)
