JerzLT1,

Make sure you check the optical disc was not damaged. having the rotor come apart could have done some damage to the opti side, and if the disc made contact with the sensor it will be toasted.

What mods are done to your engine? How old was the opti? Pretty rare for them to come apart at that RPM, most often yu have to go closer to 7K.

One thing that I've dealt with in a few cases where having too long a drive pin has caused the plastic to break. Double check the Dowel, should be .620" to a MAX of .685". I also try to stay around 650"

the disk looks clean and straight, its a Heads/cam stock short block LT1 and the opti was less then 100 miles old. its a 96 so it should have the shorter dowl pin right? it looks like its just under .5 but i could be off since the light isnt the best

installed opti and before the water pump and everything went back on i tried firing it up, optical sensor must be fried. some cyls are firing but not even enough to start or idle, just a few chugs here and there. sending it back for a new one tomorrow

oh you just did a cap and rotor? yeah the rotor dust might have killed the sensor.

JerzLT1 11-02-2009 03:40 PM

i was taking a chance but wanted to get the MSD cap and rotor anyway because the rotor is a better design, itll be shipped out tomorrow and should be covered under warranty

Mine does it.....and its the factory unit with 75k and it's been through a water pump failure. I know I just set myself up for failure with this comment. I'll be placing my order soon ;)
