MSD6AL wiring

Can I extend the four wires that splice into the engine harness by like 5 feet? I wanna put the box inside the car.

chrisfrom nj 01-26-2009 06:33 PM

you can put the box where ever you want

sweetbmxrider 01-26-2009 06:38 PM

why not?

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 06:46 PM

I just don't wanna extend the four wires a lot and then have it lose strength, working ability etc.

sweetbmxrider 01-26-2009 07:53 PM

switch to a lower gauge with less resistance per foot. i think it will be fine. racers mount them inside around the dash area all the time.

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 07:56 PM

Thats what I was looking at, I also am gonna take a look under the fender in the driver side wheel well.

sweetbmxrider 01-26-2009 07:58 PM

like down where the cai's stick the air filter?

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 08:03 PM

Behind it, apparently there is a lot of empty space in there. Thats tmmrs project.

sweetbmxrider 01-26-2009 08:24 PM

cool have fun. hope it doesn't get too wet back there.

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 08:25 PM

I shall see, if not, then off to radio shack for some wire and zip ties.

No, you can't. There's a reason it's finned- so that it sheds heat. If you shove it somewhere that is insulated it may heat up and pop the internal fuse.

You can mount it in the passenger compartment but that's not optimal. Just like gen I people who mount their coils sideways. Does it work? Yes, but it may have a shorter life.

But to answer the question, you can extend the wires if you use a quality auto wire of a proper gauge. I think 10-12 is what you should use.

Ok, but it prob will get better cooling inside the car. I drive with the windows down :)

I just want to clean up the engine and that is a loose end as of now.

Ok. It will probably be fine anyway. Just make sure you can get at the rev limiter pills easily.

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 08:59 PM

Yup, any one have a 6200 laying around? :)

LOL. I'm sure I do. But I have NO ****ING IDEA where.

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 09:01 PM

I only got a 6k one and would love to have the MSD match the computor rev limit. Well off by 100 but still. MSD rev limiter > stock.

Even better, if somebody else has to drive your car, you can throw in the 4000 pill and be good to go.

LTb1ow 01-26-2009 09:09 PM

I was thinking the same thing. :)
Granted that would be hell with a 3k stall..... lol

LTb1ow 01-27-2009 11:24 PM

Now that I am back on top, lol, anyone have a 6200 pill laying around?

Knipps 01-28-2009 02:34 PM

Not sure if you want to go through all this but an interesting read nonetheless
