auto electrician

anyone in the hamilton area good with car wiring/electrical work or know a shop. One of the wires is grounded somewhere, no windows, rear lights or interior lights, blows a fuse immediately when replaced. Car is gutted so prob won't be too hard a job :)

Courtesy fuse? Check the cigarette lighter.

ya about that... no interior

Trace wire and ohm out.

MyFirstZ 06-28-2011 08:49 AM

Which fuse is it blowing and what kinda of car is this in ?

FoodStampsz 06-28-2011 01:02 PM

in my 86 firebird i've only tried to replace the taillights and the fuse blew immediately

sweetbmxrider 06-28-2011 01:07 PM

The tail light fuse is the only fuse that keeps blowing? Have you tried ohming out from the fuse out side to the tail light socket?

MyFirstZ 06-28-2011 05:27 PM

I have seen the socket itself short if you physically don't see a short in the wire. If the car is gutted like you said should be easy. Like they said ohm or check resistance from the output put of the fuse to the inlet connector of the socket. Should have no resistance or very little resistance. Like .02 ohms. If you get nothing there check it from the fuse outlet to the outlet of the socket if it jumps it is the socket it self. To double check just go across the out let and see if you get a close or same reading

If it is the outlet of the fuse to the inlet of the socket
You can also check the wiring by probing or findingg connectors till it reaches the socket as check point.

Sorry if that is confusing I'm terrible at explaining and I'm on my phone. Il keep on checking at your up dates

thanks guys i'll give it a whirl tomorrow, i usually try and stray away from electrical issues, tend to hurt myself :) let you know how it goes

Enjoyable when you find the probelm 8] Whole lot of Self Satisfaction or you curse at the problem and throw it across the shop, whatever makes you feel better

MyFirstZ 07-04-2011 09:26 AM

Any luck ?

ya traced the wire back was getting amps at the socket but the bulbs were like gone gone, looks like I'm going to need to find a new set of bulb sockets cuz that seems to be my issue, did the same thing with the windows getting amps figured it was my switch so i ordered 2 new switches today, we'll see what happens
