mustang progress
heres how i started:
http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/5...ress001ve9.jpg heres where im at after 2 hours of work: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/6...ress002ow4.jpg need that stupid special tool to take off the fuel lines and then its mostly just bolts til i get the heads off... also, i always had a tapping on the pass side, found out why...one of the rockers is loose, but the bolt holding it on is tight. weird. |
What tool is it for the fuel line?
|
its that dumb thing that clamps over the line like a clam....i actually found out you dont really need to undo the lines, theres enough play to just move the rail out of the way
|
I think your engine is in backwards, why is the distributor in the front?
|
i JUST baught a set today at advance auto...EVERY SIZE for $10
|
nice super mega ultra extra long coil wire going over the fan!!!!!!!!!!
just kiddin, its always fun in the beginning taking it all apart. Then frustrating when its taking too long to get it all back together, but then its worth it in the end. :) You gonna spray bomb the engine bay with most of the motor apart there? What all you doing? Explorer heads, cam, intake and stuff? |
already has the explorer intake, im putting on ported stock heads and 1.7 RR's. and yeah im gonna attempt to clean up as much crap as i can while im in there, heads are painted black, valve covers i just painted black today....should look pretty sweet when its all said and done
i would be going with a cam too, but i dont have the money, and i want to drive the car sometime this summer so the stock cam will have to do. |
Cool cool man. Happy wrenchin'!!
|
that is good for only a few hours work. keep us updated. :)
|
todays progress...got the fuel rails off, got the lower intake off, took off the alternator bracket, the P/S bracket, and other stuff attached to the heads. also brought my valve covers back home from work, and my ported heads too, so theres pictures of those.
as it sits now: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/4...ress003um5.jpg where the parts of the motor are living for now http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/9...ress004sx5.jpg one of the heads (other one is sitting in the back seat of the lumina, im just lazy) http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5...ress005na2.jpg annnd valve covers. hopefully the black theme will come together and look decent http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/2...ress006eu8.jpg stuff left to do...take off the headers, take out the head bolts...and i should be home free. then its reassembly and spending money on head bolts, rockers, etc |
w00t looking goooooood congrats on the progress

ill let you know when i actually have money again
all i want to do right now is get this thing back on the road for the summer |
wow, good work on that thing man. whats the difference between mustang heads and explorer heads, more airflow?
|
yeah explorers have GT40 heads and intake, basically what the 93 cobra has. i only have the explorer intake, the heads are stock mustang heads but theyre ported
|
They have GT-40 heads!!! man if i knew that id of taken a friends motor of his, he had an explorer block, and i always wondered y he wouldnt let it go so cheap, I was like dude its not like its out of a mustang or anyhting, man was a sneaky bastard lol.
|
yeah...the 96-97 has GT40 heads, 98+ has GT40P which has a different spark plug angle which makes it hard to use with certain headers, but they flow the best
