95 Firebird, Budget drag car
so, been a while. picked up a 95 firebird formula from wildwood last year, turned it into a non street track only budget drag build. slowly derailing from the budget. Picked up that 385 LT1 that has been sitting dormant for some years on this forum, and here we are now.

it actually idled pretty well with just the injector constant changed and the cyl volume corrected. These were 32lb injectors right? I even ran the plugs that were left in it :-P:rofl: It had plenty of compression dry, actually spun backwards after the first few cranks when i let off the key and shot out the intake LOL. Thought i killed the maf |

got a nasty split blm issue at idle that completely disappears once throttle is applied. oh yeah, maiden voyage up the road today. needs a few more things and start working on this tune.

Vacuum hoses and caps in good shape etc?

yes the iac port on the back was modded to not feed into the main plenum, but no iac bleed hole was drilled from front to back like a stock tb has. i just did that, but the tb gasket ripped, so just ordered one like 5 mins ago
i got the blms down to 122-129 left to right just with tune/idle changed to 900 from 850, hopefully with the bleed hole i will be able to settle it out easier/quicker. I am gonna change the oil to 10w30 amsoil (from castrol 10w30 full syn) and check the rocker lash, when it gets hot either the rockers are loose or smacking the valve cover (i changed to stock valve covers as my coils wouldnt clear the cowl with the way i mounted). i did completely gut the stock valve covers, so they "shouldnt" be hitting (i ran ultra pro mags with stock vc before no issues). or the valvetrain is just that sewing machiney. the knock sensor is calm at idle and revving, so i dont think they are loose but. |

how much of a sewing machine was this thing back in the day? also, i think I gotta swap the thermostat, it seems like it has a 180 in it, she likes to get warm (chills at 195) even with the fan on at 187-193 and a good bleed |
You could hear it at idle. Think I had idle in the 7s too

well i pulled the valvecovers and checked the lash. lash is good....rockers arent hitting valvecovers, all rockers have oil and everything looks good....so i guess the valvetrain is just noisy as hell.
