LS Rocker Arms
So, question time:
Parts pile for snowtime heads/cam swap is growing. I have a rocker arm question: I have the stock rockers that are currently on the car. I know the stock roller bearings like to puke out and infest the motor, so obviously they must change. I also have a set of 'heavy duty' replacements I bought new from a vendor on LS1Tech a few years ago. They look ok, different bearing design from the factory rockers. Still needle bearings but maybe secured a bit better. The latest trend being run by the cool kids are a bushing replacement on the stock rockers, like these. My question is: do I run the new but unknown durability heavy duty ones I bought, or upgrade the stockers? I'd prefer quiet and bulletproof. |
I did the upgrade when I swapped to dual springs on my last set of heads. It is very easy to do. I still have my set if you are looking for a set already done. My TF215s came with roller rockers so I used those.

Coming from someone who always seems to end up with unknown condition/strength items, just do the trunion upgrade on the stockers and sell those other ones to offset cost. Or pick up that set from the Shed Master
|
Sheds, you have the bushing upgraded ones? Not the comp cams bearing? If so, shoot me a PM and let me know what you want for 'em.
Beggs, when I bought them, they seemed like a good idea at the time! At least they're new. |
So I decided to pull out the ones I bought a few years ago.
I'm not 'feeling' them. https://i.imgur.com/jGTTNwA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/m1pyHvi.jpg Might get the Strano BTR Straub bushing upgrades for my stockers. |

Those look very similar to the stock design, where the bearing case for the rollers can split apart and shat them out.
The comp cams and BTR kits have larger, stepped trunions and snap ring retainers on the ends to prevent that from happening. Those kits can be had for ~$120. Ive assembled over 40 sets of them and never had any problems. Ive never tried the bushing kits, but I know straub makes the same thing as strano for about $160 vs $200. http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...oducts_id=8252 |

Ok, so I decided to spend an extra $40 and go for the Straub bushing kit. I figure I can sell the other 'new' rockers and make up some of the $$.
|
I updated my posts to make my idiocy public. Kept saying 'Strano' when I mean 'Straub'. Also, the BTR kit is like the Comp Cams kit. Not bushings.
|
Got my Straub bushing kit in. Nicely made and packaged.

Very funny, good sir.

Thanks for recommending that I not use the Comp Cams trunnions. BTR is running 10% off the whole month for their products, so I ordered 2 trunnion kits, though I should order a 3rd and put a set in the 4.8 daily driver too
|
I also bought two cams, and two spring kits, lol
