Im trying make it through this winter without a project so I have time to learn tuning
|
camaro is still on the road. drive it 1.5 hrs yesterday and fired off some line-lock burnouts. took gopro video etc.
it will come off the road for the season in a few weeks though. Well, As much as it sucks, I'm glad that this happened at the end of the year, rather than mid year or before an event.... ... I have to pull out the transmission and send it back to the builder in Georgia. It is rated for 650 flywheel hp and 675 tq with all sorts of upgraded internals.. and even though I do hammer on the car, it still should have handled it. It is slipping heavily on the 3-4 upshift under moderate throttle. it will go into 4th, but only while I am coasting. The trans is under warranty still, so as I have been speaking to the builder (Pro Built Automatics), I was told to pull it out and sent it back for a refresh. I put about 4,200 miles on it since I installed it last fall. also: since certain plans for next winter WILL be a BADASS smallblock rocking in the neighborhood of 500 hp n/a with a 200 wet shot.. I am considering dropping the fuel tank to upgrade to a larger pump, in order to save myself some work next winter. I've done a pump in the car before, and I just replaced it with a stock flow rated one. ( This may have been the source of my "lean" issue while racing at NJMP etc.) Not sure what size to go with? 220? If i go bigger now with a weak ass engine, it couldn't hurt anything right? I have my adjustable fuel pressure regulator to handle psi. I'll probably start a full other thread about this and my "build" soon instead of a Q&A here.. - going to upgrade to Koni yellow shocks and struts all around - have to send my MSD Digital 6 ignition box back to MSD because it is acting wacky - various exterior and interior tasks - troubleshoot my "groaining" front pass brake, (sometimes it makes a low groaning sound when squeaking...not all the time, sometimes cold sometimes when hot, maybe foreign substance got on/into a pad??? braking is even side to side) - oil, rear, trans (obviously) fluids replaced, filters, grease job, etc, -visit local performace engine building shops and do my own research to determine a clear, detailed plan of attack for next winter my winter house project (fully finishing my basement) eats up a lot of my $budget, but if I can work enough overtime, I might consider upgrading from my 10 bolt to a 12 bolt setup. I would bring over and bolt on my current C4HD disc brake setup but have moser, currie, or strange build it |
Since I now have even more of the parts for my heads/cam swap, I'm looking to actually make it happen this winter.
|
-LS6 Valley Cover, along with new valve covers and coils
-reinstall driver seat so I'm not licking the steering wheel, install passenger seat and hopefully drive the car more than 300 miles next year. |
if everything goes through with getting a new house and i have a garage i can actually fit my car into overnight...
i have a set of american racing long tube headers and a catted y pipe ive been meaning to throw on there. motor mounts going in while the headers are out. i hear its a pita to do motor mounts so thats why i need a garage to fit my car in to keep the project overnight when it doesnt take as long as i plan...like almost every other project i sink my teeth into lol. |
Just shipped my 3200 edge converter back for a cut and clean and replacing the lock up disk. The 4l60e is being shipped back to performabuilt for a level 2 upgrade. Seems like the new power eats up the weak 3-4 clutch pack. While I have the trans out I will be replacing the flexplate (missing teeth) and dropping the oil pan to fix an annoying leak.

With current builds of a 79 Pro touring TA , 38 Chevy LS3 Street rod and an 84 TA rustification and semi build on the hot burner in the shop, my free time is limited.
I have a 71 firebird R&D car on the road being broken in and will be installing the new EFI system I have designed for Pontiac engines. This will serve as the test mule. I will swap it over to my 78 TA once I work out the bugs if any. All the parts are machined and waiting to be installed. System its multiport injection, controls timing, fans, transmission, A/C , ect. Brian - I have a new tic M/C on the shelve if interested. Think I paid around 300 for it. Was for a friend's 98 TA that got sold. I may have 2 sitting on the shelve come to think of it. |

Ive got a roll bar waiting to get installed, I'm gonna set it up in the car to test fit then take it out to get it sand blasted (it's chrome) and either have them powdercoat it or I'll just paint it myself. I also want to get a new steering wheel and have a properly working horn, my college kid budget Grant I have has seen better days anyway...
And as Jake said, hopefully put more miles on it next year |
welp, it is technically "spring" now, how have all the winter car projects been progressing fellas ?
|
Not a damn thing.

Installed my performabuilt level 2 trans but had a problem with major slipping, had to remove and send back. Performabuilt fixed the problem and paid all shipping charges. We were both unhappy. I'm currently upgrading my Garrett GT3582R turbo to a Borg Warner S366. This turbo should flow a lot more air with less boost pressure and less back pressure. I hope to finish up this weekend and then do some tuning. Technically winter is over but with all these noreasters the car would be in the garage anyways.

Did the T56 swap and nothing else. Times been hard to come by as I've been away a lot. Still got to get through that list before car show season

Got some underhood trim parts to start painting. |
Slow going on the Bird. Brakes are just about done but need some Pal assistance with some of the other efforts.
The Z got an unexpected cosmetic upgrade - Stinger wrap in carbon flash to match the other black metallic panels. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgnn92wbz.jpg |
This "winter" may last until August.
