So along with the hotside redo, I have always wanted to get a new harness and try my hand at tuning my car. Enter holley terminator X, been messing with the software for a few months and finally pulled the trigger on hardware.

And of course, doing some surgery to a brand new harness seemed perfectly logical

Gonna be a fun winter getting it all set the way I want it to be.

Wiring, something I have never been great at...

I ordered a sheet of ABS to do the final mount but figured a mock up setup on some scrap wood would work. I give you, this rats nest

So along with the dedicated battery hook up for the PCM itself, I plan to run a direct Hot/Ground to the panel that is fed after the cutoff switch. Those are the red/black buses on each side. Fuse panel in center is a switched ignition hot setup rather than my previous hot all the time. #progress

Also wanted to bypass all remaining car inputs for starts etc. This was the least cheesy setup I could find. Igntion hot, then a bump start setup. Two extra switches will prob be radio and my other misc stuff. (Air comp, line lock, air valves)

That switch panel plugs into the PCM board via a old coil pack extension harness

I will prob verify car starts, and runs prior to finalizing board.

Tonight's project was swapping out pressure senders.. did I have the right size for oil pressure? Nope, off to harbor freight since its walking distance away

Fuel pressure installed

OEM oil pressure sender removed and replaced. Can now have PCM kill igniton if oil pressure drops. Excite 8-)

Slowly been labeling, removing and organizing the underside mess. Years of hack jobs by yours truly have made quite the mess. Prob stash coil packs on the tunnel inside around where I have the one laying.

Got the DS all done and tacked up. Pretty excited for how its all working out.

Started to remove more of the car cause winter boredom.

Hopefully no more hissing, crackling, and lousy sounding noise thru speakers

So it works, sorta. Had wired it via stock power/key on, and had no power at plug. Fuses had power and at that point said F it. Will be wiring that to the Holley board as well. Hotwired it to verify speakers and head unit worked.

We getting close now

Hotside almost all tacked up, next up is wastegate, turbo mount, and some downpipe support

4in downpipe and assorted hotside pics.

And off the car ready to be drilled/ground/tig'd. Really happy with how this went from a pile of SCH10 SS parts to this.

Now that hotside is off car, started to chip away at remaining mechanical stuff that needs to be updated.

Started with the PS high line, was a straight off the rack and now its 90* for a tighter hug to rack
https://i.imgur.com/8YUyIFLl.jpg

Then we took a turn for the worse...
https://i.imgur.com/oVRopyrl.jpg

Apparently ordered a 92-93 OBD1 timing cover set which had the splined opti so the only seal I needed.. was MIA.

But 10 bucks later and a drive thru hell, got the correct set and got this bad boy on
https://i.imgur.com/qP5ERDfl.jpg

Water pump and rad lines back on, ready for coolant. Slowly getting more things crossed off the list.

Goal is still mid March for start up, or attempt to.

LTb1ow 02-29-2020 06:51 PM

Had a surprisingly awesome day of productive-nice. Degreased the hotside, then power washed it all, ready for welding.

Then, kicked off the day of wiring and fell on into things. Made a panel to hold the ignition panel and fuel gauge

And much better idle video today. Don't mind the smoke, new wrap and fresh hotside just burning off oils etc. Took it around the block and am still in amazement of how awesome holley is.

Simple and clean hotside, I like. Excellent fabrication work. Keep them post coming.

LTb1ow 03-30-2020 12:09 PM

Thanks, lots of time and work went into it. Main goal was plug access and ground clearance which I believe we accomplished.

i could have solved your ground clearance problem with 1 V band and a 90.

but honestly, jell. Makes me wanna order some pipe

Never hit on the downpipe, the crossover always hung to low.

Either way, its a 4in dumped downpipe, lil to race car for me.

KirkEvil 03-31-2020 08:30 AM

So did the holley self tune or did you retain your previous tune with the new turbo piping?

This is all off the canned holley wizard tune setup, good for idling, and putzing around but I would never go WOT on it.

Holley will self tune based on user inputted fuel/timing curves. But if you make a ****** tune, its only gonna learn to get close to that ****** tune.

First remote tuning session is next Monday.

LTb1ow 04-02-2020 07:27 PM

Changed oil in prep for some tuning and couldn't resist taking some pictures of the new hotside. Still amazed I had a part in making this. And of course, that 4in downpipe that some how fits better than the haggard 3in one I had previous.

IROCZman15 04-02-2020 08:11 PM

nice job. looking forward to many videos

who are you using to remote tune it? i also decided to go this route because I am a complete novice at efi and tuning but I am learning as it happens. I am using Mad Science Motorsports and so far it is going very well. https://mad-sciencemotorsports.com/

There is a new performance/automotive shop just 2 minutes drive away from me who recently purchased a DynoJet and is in the process of getting it assembled. LC3 Performance. https://lc3-performance.business.site/

My tuner has the ability to remote dyno tune also, so I might go that route once we/he start tuning it for power. we are currently only working on cold starts, hot restarts, and part throttle tuning.

your car is really coming along good. glad you have it basically almost road worthy. good stuff man.

LTb1ow 04-02-2020 09:20 PM

Holley EFI instruction, guy is Los Vasquez, comes highly recommended in the holley world. Just getting three hours of getting some learning, and then base tuning setup. If that goes well, I will have him do the WOT stuff but that is gonna be tricky given the current state of affairs in the world.

That shop you listed is wayyyy north, I prob will contact EFX and see if I can book a hour or so of dyno use

IROCZman15 04-02-2020 10:23 PM

yea, for you, it would be a bit of a drive to get up here, and thier dyno isnt operational just yet. Im certain EFX will do just right for you indeed; for me, thats a long drive down south, so I was happy when these guys opened the business and also when they just bought the dynojet. aside from them, the only place "local" to me would be Bruce's speed shop, but IM not sure he does much dyno tuning recently.

keep us posted as the tuning stuff goes on. I am very curious to learn and hope to one day be able to have a good understanding of how it works on a N/A/ car, but seeing the differences on a turbo setup will also be cool. So far, I am glad I went with the holley based stuff, as it seems the tuning/software stuff is much more highly regarded.

LS1ow 04-03-2020 07:53 AM

Nishan has a brand new shop with a dyno right off the turnpike exit 13

LTb1ow 04-03-2020 04:03 PM

got a address?

The_Bishop 04-04-2020 08:09 AM

Looks damned good.

KirkEvil 04-04-2020 10:51 AM

Looking good. Get some paint on that steel tube bracket supporting the turbo.
