4th gen rust

Just asking for opinions, if anybody has seen any areas on their cars prone to rusting. i know like 3rd gens had floor pan problems, and a few other areas. I havent seen any major rusting besides some surface rust on the inside of the door area ( been fixed) but has anyone had problems with the wheel wells, or chassis, or floor pans?

I just want to prep my car and fix it ahead of time before anything goes bad lol, thanks guys.

rear shock tower / wheel well areas are a known issue to heavily exposed cars

also top of the front strut/upper control arm where it bolts through in the fender wheel

I've noticed on my 96, the platewhere the stock airbox would be opposite the battery, theres a little rust forming there.

rear wheel wells, even with the factory undercoating, likes to fall off in big chunks

Right around where the molding is on the door

Dead serious, it's just barely starting to bubble up on my drivers side door right along the line where the molding is

im perplexed on how composite doors can rust

Anti_Rice_Guy 12-29-2010 03:38 PM

Idk it looks exactly like rust bubbles, even my dad thinks so lol, could've sworn they had a thin metal covering

Blacdout96 12-30-2010 01:03 PM

maybe the paints delaminating from the surface

I might expect to eventually see rust along the firewall in the corners where the wheel wells slope down, like behind the ecm. the 99 I stripped had a pine needle & leaf pile back there. No big rust yet but eventually there would be.

I saw very little rust on the 99Z I stripped, ~9 years/80000 miles. I remember the shock mount on the UCA was a total disaster. IIRC there is a rubber isolator that must trap water. What a mess. And the fuel and brake line nuts. The lines had some green coating and looked like new but the nuts were quite rusted. Other than that not bad. I was more amazed how the bottom of the car looked just like the bottom of my 82 TA. 1980 engineering lives!
