taillight mod

since its so cold i figured id try a project i can do inside and keep my cars on the road. i bought a pair of iroc taillights and am goin to do the amber delete mod.

how do i go about seperating the lense from the housing? theres like 3 or 4 little platic clips that look very easy to break and how do i seperate all the sealant?

i read a write up on tgo a while ago but couldnt find it last time i looked.

I think you have to put them in the oven on low heat for a little while to warm and "melt" the adhesive. I've never done it, so get proper details from someone who has.

Might wanna do a search on TGO is no one here has done it.

to seperate the sealant just use a heat gun... just keep the gun moving so you dont melt the tail light housing... that should work... but iv heard people putting them in ovens too.. but that sounds like a bad idea if you ask me but what do i know.... as for the clips i donno... 4th gen guy sorry... heheh

ehh i got a hair dryer, i dont think my oven is big enough anyway and i could only imagine my moms face LOL

If you want to try a heatgun, shoot me a PM. I have one you can borrow.

maroman88 02-07-2007 10:59 AM

got em seperated and cleaned in under an hour, not bad lol

first i removed the blank black piece with the lisence plate lamps then i filled up the lenses with hot water and let sit for a minute, emptied them
nxt i removed the 2 plastic clips from the tops of each, then i slowly and carefully pried them apart with a screw driver and my hands, very simply if you go slow!

Micheals on Rt.17 right next to the old Sports World, has a really good selection of model paints. I might actually even have half a can left of Candy Apple Red from a model car I just built.

k ill try michaels tonite

i have 3 options of what to do with the colors

1 amber delete and black out 2/3 of the white

2 amber delete and red out 2/3 of the white

3 leave the white alone.......

4 other sugestions

yes pretty quick drawings but u get the idea

Knipps 02-07-2007 07:44 PM

leave the white

Tru2Chevy 02-08-2007 09:50 AM

I would do the amber delete, but leave the white alone. Having lots of reverse light is always a good thing IMO.
