car hesitant and SES light

last night i was driving my car and it was fine.... today i was driving home from rowan to go pick up power locks i ordered and i was almost home and my car seemed started to run very rough..... i pulled over... let it idle... i then revved it and it got alot louder than it should with a stock exhaust.... i proceeded to drive home and whenever i would accelerate it felt a little hesitant but it made it home fine...i get into my driveway... revved it again and it was still louder than it should be... i turned the car off and turned it back on and it was running fine... i went to drive my car and it was like sputtering and hesitant... i would hit the gas and it would hesitate and then jump quickly.... i changed both 02 sensors adn it continues to run rough... any suggestions? the SES light is ON but i have a 95 camaro and i have the connector problem with scanners.... could it be possible someone put something in my gas?

If you have a SES light, get it scanned before doing anything else. Otherwise you are just guessing and throwing money/parts at it.

i know i want to get it scanned its just that i am going to have to pay someone to scan it because i have the obd2 connector on the obd1 system....

Or you can just get someone with an OBD1 scanner to scan it and use jumper wires, since you only need two pins.

Do a search here, I know the diagram has been posted before.

Autozone should still be able to scan it for you for free to get the codes.

I thought most Autozone stores only had OBDII scanners?

they have the obd1/obd2 scanners its just different cables for it... so im guessing i go to autozone and tell them to use the obd1 cables but i need to plug in the jumper setup?
i would think they would be hesitant to let me use it the way i need to use it...

could a plugged catalytic converter be the problem? (just something that crossed my mind)

I have an OBD1 scanner, where are you located at?

bobb1589 09-10-2007 11:52 PM

right now i am in glassboro nj at rowan university

bobb1589 09-10-2007 11:54 PM

i think i figured out the problem... i couldnt really do anything to the car since im stuck at school without a way of getting home so i had my dad take off the cat and see if it ran... looks like my cat was clogged and dented (i bottomed out the night before this whole problem started) i still would like to get my car scanned though

bobb1589 09-18-2007 10:08 PM

well ive thrown lots of parts and $$$ at the car so now my dad just decided to buy an obd1 and obd2 scanner with all the cables so i should be able to figure this all out

Blacdout96 09-19-2007 05:53 PM

wait, the clogged Cat wasent the problem? and oyu didnt try to take it to autozome to have it scanned? well even though their a little pricey, they do hold their weight in gold having a scanner. I thought I never needed one till my ligh kept coming on and I did the old money/time deal, after that, I can at least get a general idea of what to look at when theres a problem. hope it works out for ya !

bobb1589 09-19-2007 06:41 PM

well the cat was clogged... now the ses light is still on and it idles real rough... i checked the plugs they were carboned up... replaced them and wires and o2 sensors... im thinkign the o2 sensors could be bad though because i pulled one out and it was carboned up... i may replace the plugs and o2 sensors again... but i am waiting to scan it this weekend when i come home from school

bobb1589 09-22-2007 07:46 PM

well... first, i bought the scanner and scanned the car... 2 codes... Code 33 and 36... 33 had to do with the MAP sensor so i checked it out..the vacuum hose to the map sensor was melted to ***** ... replaced that... made it a little better... code 36 is something to do with the circuit between the ignition module and the coil packs... i have a family friend who is giving me his good coil packs off of his 3800 grand prix.. im hoping this fixed it because the ignition module is like $180

Blacdout96 09-22-2007 09:47 PM

But lt1's dont have coil packs, they have an opti spark. you mean he's giving you his ignition module?
