Need help, elec. problem with the benz

Yesterday the battery light came on and went off, thought nothing of it. Last night it happened again and the radio started acting wierd, I cranked the radio to give it a good hard draw and the radio went off and turned on, then lights brightened back up, radio was fine, all is kosher. I figured my battery terminals needed cleaning is all...

Fast forward to this afternoon. Went to the stop and shop 2 minutes from my house, lights were all dimming by the time I got there. The radio was on and off, tach was bouncing around, blinkers wouldn't blink steady, and the temp needle didn't move up at all. When I got back to my car, I started it up, lights were all bright and fine, gauges all worked. Went home, and sprayed the bttery terminals down with some seafoam deep creep.

Then about 10:00, I had to go to the post office (2 mins from my house as well), and then to another supermarket to get something else. By the time I was at the post office, all the other problems aroze with lights and blinkers (they didnt even make a sound and werent steady), the light for my electric rear window defroster was dimming to the beat of the blinkers, and the wiper and window were moving like frozen molasses. I pull out of the post office parking lot... and the car dies right in the middle of the road. Tried to start it right there, wouldn't turn over or anything. Waited two minutes, tried to start it while calling AAA, it turned over like twice very slowly then nothing. About 5-10 mins later, i tried it again, turned over very slowly a few times but then caught, the engine started and lights were all bright as ever. Made it home, parked and that was it.

I'll take any ideas right about now.

battery or alternator

misterjuice 12-02-2007 11:26 PM

probably voltage regulator..or alternator.

ur poly v belt slipping at all...or is it old and crappy?

i would go with voltage regulator as well...depending on the vehicle you might have to replace/rebuild the entire alternator.

I agree with the above- voltage reg or alternator. Do you have a voltmeter or ammeter in the car?
