s*iiiiiiiiiiit

Horrible clanking noises and vibrations, mech tells me the intermediate shaft is bouncing around like a crack head. He says it can be worked on but he thinks its cheaper to probably find a whole new transmission. How much does a transmission rebuild cost? How about a new/used tranny? 1996 LT1 6speed Trans Am.

f**k me i need to win the lotto like 6 credit cards ago for this goddamn car.

Yeah, I have one. Out of a '96SS. I'm not going to use it since I needed an LS1 trans for my swap.

WildBillyT 08-18-2008 09:25 PM

There some confusion right now from my garage... they are telling me the vin comes up as a borg warner transmission, but i thought they were are termec t56's? are they the same, or do i have a cheaper trans? second, he says that its the intermediate shaft thats the problem... would a rebuild kit handle this? or should i be looking for something else?

I believe they are one in the same.

BW built them until 1998. Then Tremec started making them. Same trans in many aspects except for the documented LT1 vs LS1 differences.
