V clamps

Any one have any luck or opinions on this style of clamp off the headers?

I am really tired of slip fit nonsense, and I plan on redoing the Y soon.

Thanks

They are well worth the price, IMO. They never leak.

This is awesome to hear, thanks

omarcamaro 02-09-2011 08:09 PM

good to know im thinking of useing them also

BonzoHansen 02-09-2011 09:00 PM

I see big dollar cars using them, usually well supported systems, they might not like a lot of flex/movement. I've seen them more often in back part of systems so you can removed an x-pipe, for example. not cheap, and I'm not sure how difficult they are to install.

Just browsing on tech, and I have come across a few, not many though.

I have them on my car connecting my FLP's to the Y.
They are nice :)

Used a lot in turbo applications. I wish i went with them instead of flanges on my headers and y

and for applications that see periodic or frequent maintenance.
Yeah, that's you

Do you weld the ring collar's to either side of the slip fit or something?

Its just like using flanges only instead of bolts you use the clamps.

sweetbmxrider 02-10-2011 10:25 AM

Yeah thats what I figured, pretty neat.

LTb1ow 02-10-2011 12:20 PM

Since I am not 100% on this, can you weld SS to regular steel? IE, my headers are SS, the clamps are not...

sweetbmxrider 02-10-2011 12:34 PM

I think it might corrode due to galvanization. I don't weld though.

I agree with you. You can weld dissimilar metals but the welds themselves and the non-stainless steel will probably corrode.

LTb1ow 02-10-2011 01:48 PM

Damn it.

afclubkid21 02-10-2011 02:44 PM

Just coat the welds really good with primer. Should be ok. A friend of mine does it all the time with no problems.

LTb1ow 02-10-2011 02:48 PM

But then my headers won't be shiny and nice looking :(

afclubkid21 02-10-2011 04:11 PM

Just coat the welds, you most likely wont see much of the primer with the v bands on anyway

Primer that can take header heat?

The primer on mine is holding up so far. Its been about 6 months since it was done.

edit: now that I think about it, its hi temp black paint that he used.

Maybe weld through primer? I don't know about that either.

afclubkid21 02-11-2011 10:10 AM

Just stating my experience

And I'm not trying to bust your stones

Just curious what type of primer he used, since DP40 or even rustoleum would burn off very fast at that location. If I spray something hot it's either with VHT or Bloxide.

Matt:

You can use Bloxide if you need to. Would probably match pretty well.

LTb1ow 02-11-2011 11:23 AM

Ok thanks guys, when I call up the shop next week, I will ask them how the feel about these etc.
