2000 Firebird help

A buddy of mine has a 2000 Firebird 6cyl Auto that has been giving him a little trouble. The radio and power windows have been cutting out on him, but the car keeps working. We were wondering if it's an accessory fuse issue or something else?
I'm trying to get him to come to the Augusta meet this Saturday but I'm not sure he's interested.

im thinking maybe the BCM (body control module)

BCM, a common issue.

I guess replacing it would be the only way to solve that issue then. Where can I get them?

sweetbmxrider 06-06-2011 09:51 AM

Dealer. If you google around, there should be a write up about fixing it. I believe its just one thing that de-solders itself. New bcm needs to be programed.

Ok so when we take it out we may be able to just re-solder a wire and throw the same bcm back in? If that's not fixing the problem then get a new one from a dealer.

Yes, its not a wire though. Its either a resistor or a capacitor or the like that breaks away from the circuit board from what I gather.

So I have to be really careful when soldering it back on then?

sweetbmxrider 06-06-2011 12:57 PM

Yeah, there is a write up somewhere. Most likely on ls1tech.

Now if we can't get it to work, will the car still run alright.
Meaning if we take it out and find it's not repairable for what ever reason. Can he still drive the car till a new one comes in (he just won't have windows, power locks and a radio [not the end of the world])? Or is something in that module vital to the car's system?

sweetbmxrider 06-06-2011 04:38 PM

Nope, the part that breaks only effects what you mentioned. He will be ok.

Sweet thanks for the help
