Wheeling in Centralia - The "Real Silent Hill"
This is about my 15th or so trip to Centralia. As usual, for those who don't know, Centralia is located in east central Pennsylvania, not far from the former off-road park Paragon. There is a coal mine fire that has been burning under Centralia since the late 60's. The coal veins under Centralia and the neighboring towns are made up of Anthracite Coal. This type of coal is the cleanest & longest burning coal in the world. It has been estimated that the coal under Centralia can burn for another 250-500+ years, and possibly wipe neighboring towns off the map. The exact thing that has happened to Centralia.
This was more about wheeling & exploring the woods than Centralia itself. These are all shots with my cell phone. I'll upload some shots off my D2x (DSLR) later. The group (My ZJ: No lift, 30" AT's, open front/rear; Buddies ZJ: AT's, 2" lift; Buddies MJ: 31" MT's, lift, LSD in rear Ford 8.8, 97-01 XJ front grill, bumper & fogs, etc.): http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CL...4/IMAG1539.jpg Trails: http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BX...4/IMAG1513.jpg http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-JJ...4/IMAG1514.jpg http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-yM...4/IMAG1515.jpg http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Nd...4/IMAG1516.jpg http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-IY...4/IMAG1517.jpg http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Ku...4/IMAG1518.jpg http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-xO...4/IMAG1519.jpg Branch removal: http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zr...4/IMAG1522.jpg http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-r5...4/IMAG1523.jpg http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-nB...4/IMAG1524.jpg http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Ko...4/IMAG1525.jpg Poser flexing: http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1y...4/IMAG1529.jpg http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Jv...4/IMAG1530.jpg Very steep, slippery trail with some big rocks - does not look bad at all in these photos: http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UY...4/IMAG1531.jpg http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Rs...4/IMAG1532.jpg http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-i9...4/IMAG1533.jpg http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Wq...4/IMAG1534.jpg http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nJ...4/IMAG1536.jpg And back in Centralia: http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ak...4/IMAG1538.jpg http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Pv...4/IMAG1537.jpg All in all it was a great time. The MJ had a rear passenger side shock rip off the axle side. That was the only damage aside from the usual brush/tree memories, errr.. scratches. |
No real jeeps :(
Hahaha looks like a good time. And cold. |
Hah I agree. But, I've had 6 Jeeps over the years. 2 YJ's, 2 XJ's a TJ (All lifted and with mud tires, bumpers, winches, all that good stuff) and now my ZJ. This thing is great off-road with the tiny 30's, rides great on road, gets 16.5 MPG average (Every one prior was around 8-12 haha), has room for 5 AND cargo, and doesn't leak! lol.
It was about 14* and windy as anything... |
coooooool
i went up in mahwah today with 8 jeeps, my blazer and a 4runner, we had quite a few casualties, including an entire 04 lifted GC that sunk, and my trans blew |
looks like you had a good time ! i wish it was so far away

That place looks like fun. Decent open trails and some good loose hill climbs. As far as stuff not looking as bad as it is, its almost ALWAYS like that. |
