One of my favorite topics!

I still have the same 200-odd piece Craftsman (Sears) mechanic's tool set I got back when I was 19 (The set's over twenty years old). I've broken sockets since then and...

WOW! That's fast progress! Looks really good! Your patch is very well cut and fit. The pic might not have done it justice, but it looks as though you didn't do a lot of grinding to bare metal before...

Holy crap! Those are incredible results for a roller job. Nice return on the effort you put in. Any chance you can pull that dent out? You've done so much work, it would be worth it to fix that.

Actually not horrible for being done with a roller, but is this the Rustoleum satin finish paint or are you actually shooting for a shiny finish? If you're going for the satin or dull finish, you're...

The compact car scene isn't my cup of tea, but I think you did a great job on the bodywork! I like the paint scheme (Minus the red clearcoat overlay, but the photos probably don't do it justice);...

I like the idea of expanded steel rather than chicken wire. More solid if a pebble or two hits it. I prefer the look, too. Just a suggestion.

I think you're better off running it in primer/sealer until you have the money to do it right. I haven't painted a car yet, but all of the research I've done indicates that a good paint job is about...

Actually looks familiar. Got rot in the same corner of the dash as I do. I'm loving the progress on this build.

Yup. If you're under warranty, I'd take it to the dealer. I've had the "Service 4WD" message pop up on mine for as long as I've had the truck (2000 Yukon, had it since 2008). Finally hooked it up to...

First time I'm looking at this at home, so I can actually see the pics. Excellent work! All of the old paint: Did you sand that down to bare metal, or was there some chemical stripper involved?...

I like the 383 myself. No replacement for displacement and you know the shop. Can you get a few bucks knocked off if you pick it up yourself instead of shipping it? Or would that not be worth the gas...

I'm for dropping the tank. Or, getting the perches where you want them and tacking them in place, then dropping the axle. If you can get it out from under the car and onto the bench, the welds are...

Also, if it's surface rust that isn't running too deep, a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a flap disk on it might do the trick. A little deeper than surface, a regular grinding wheel. Deeper than that, it...

I was thinking a lot of bolts. Four of them. Plus the one in the middle holding the belt itself. I suppose a plate only in the bottom of the package tray would work as it's highly unlikely crash...

I like V's idea the best so far. I have a tendency to go overkill on stuff like roll cages and seat belts, so I'd take it one step further and sandwich the sheetmetal between two pieces of 3/16 or...

^^^What he said. I bought my Hobart new a few years ago for about $400. I think it's the Handler 187. Granted, I wouldn't use it to build cages and stuff, but it's great for sheet metal, exhaust,...

Forgive me if this sounds dumb, but until now, I've never looked at them side by side. Are you sure it's a Pontiac 400 and not an Olds 403?
