When the car is on the suspension are the upper and lower rod ends in the same vertical plane or is that not possible? I am thinking that if the rod ends are not in the same vertical plane, then they could be put under side loads leading to the failure you experienced.
I realize they are designed to allow some side loading, but if they start out mis-aligned they could be trying to articulate beyond their limits. Does that make sense?
In the pic it apprears the car is jacked up and the suspension in full droop and the rod ends are not in the same plane. The lower end looks to be further inward than the upper end?
