Wall NJ auto restorer arrested!

Anyone give work to Victor Decker in Freehold or Wall?

http://www.app.com/article/20120412/...y=mod|mostview

Quote:
FREEHOLD — Authorities on Thursday arrested an auto restoration owner who they said swindled two dozen customers out of more than $250,000-worth of repair work that was never performed.

And in many cases, investigators said, Victor A. Decker, a Wall resident who owns a handful of auto shops between Freehold and Asbury Park, damaged or all together destroyed the antique or classic cars in his care. Many cars were never returned to their owners and the authorities are unaware of their location, Monmouth County Prosecutor Peter E. Warshaw Jr. said.

Decker, 43, was taken into custody Thursday and held on $150,000 bail in Monmouth County Jail in Freehold Township, set by Judge Richard W. English. His arrest came as a result of a joint investigation by Warshaw’s office and the State Police.

According to a statement from Warshaw, Decker bilked about 24 customers of $271,000 for restoration work on their vintage vehicles, but did not perform the work for which he was contracted and paid to perform. Decker owns 1st Class Auto Restoration of Freehold; First Class Auto Restoration of Asbury Park, and Perfect Touch Auto Restoration of Asbury Park, Freehold and Wall.

Warshaw said many of the autos – the ones that were located – were stripped, significantly damaged or destroyed.

If convicted of the crime he was charged with – second-degree theft by deception – Decker could spend up to 10 years in state prison.

Anybody with information pertaining to the investigation is asked to call Detective Edward Finlay of the Prosecutor’s Office at 732-431-7160, extension 5838 or Trooper Michael Hughes at 609-296-3132.

The authorities declined to release Decker’s photo.

Ahhh Vic, he knows how to do the work but he's just a *******. Its a shame. There is a big thread about him on some generic blog/forum and many many people are pissed at him. It was only time before it caught up with him. I actually know where he works and watched him get arrested. Hope some justice comes to those he ****ed.

Never heard of any of the shops he owned but you'd be surprised how often I have customers tell me horror stories like this or stories about shops constantly asking them for money but doing zero work on the cars.

There was some assbag that stiffed me on over five grand. He owned a shop 2 blocks over from The Circus in Wall. I can't remember his name, but he ran into Dept. of Treasury issues and it blocked us from collecting our money.

This. My in-laws neighbor finally got his '65 GTO out of some shop after almost ~10~ years. I remember vaguely seeing the car in the garage of the house when we first started dating, and I actually forgot he owned it. He went round and round with the guy for years and spent a ludicrous amount of money to get it done. It's certainly nice, but he could have bought two done ones for what he has into it.

I thought the same thing. Not looking to dance on graves but he probably ruined a couple of dreams or even lives with his BS.

I got ripped off by a wedding photographer, and for what it's worth I hope a rabid racoon rips out his vas deferens.

yup i just put myself in the shoes of those that got ripped off. the whole club would probably have been in uproar if it was one of our cars. it said in the article that some of the cars were damaged or destroyed. its just a terrible situation
