Quick trans questions
Whats the + of having a non lock up torque converter over a lock up?
Also,
where is a reputable shop in central jersey, i can bring my transmision to get it checked out, so I know its rebuilt, and I wasnt ripped off.

The only plus of a non-lockup converter that I can think of is that they are cheaper....

a + for lockup is for a DD/street car is lockup is better on gas miliage and not as harsh on the trans. with a non-lockup you'd definately want a really good trans cooler as you'd be driving around reving at whatever RPMs the stall is for.

Not true. Lockup or not, you won't always be at 4,000 RPM if you have a 4,000 RPM stall non-lockup converter. The lockup only engages at cruising speeds in 3rd/4th gear to reduce slippage.

In many cases, somebody wouldn't get a lock up converter because their car isn't set up for it (aka old school rides).
For a car that is set up for a lockup converter there is pretty much no reason to NOT go with one.

if the stall is to high in the convertor the splines on the pump stator get ripped up from the slaming of the one way clutch in the conv -- this happenes from having way too many RPMs and mucho power when lock up is applying -- stick with original plan a car to drive to school than once you can avoid crashing it build a race car -- no one has both no matter what they tell you -- jz

the problem you have is you have never been exposed to the right way of doing things with tools -- the china crap tools you might be using are most of the problem -- craftsman is one step above total garbage -- if you had someone to show you the corect way to use tools you might have a chance at this but yo0u dont and everything you try gets all $reded up -- try to find someone to help you even if its one day a month 2 guys would even be better but from what i see all you get is stupid lip service from guys who actualy know less than you do BUT they know the BUZZ words and thats all you need on line to be a real guy is BUZZ words - again try to find someone who has done some things and is willing to come buy and help you maybe some day you will gather enough info you wont have to ask all that you do --- jz
