t top conversion
Hey everyone. I plan of using all t top parts from my boss' wrecked 2000 SLP SS to turn my 93 hardtop into a 93 t-top. I have plenty of shop time, a buddy who is a machineist/fabricator, a tig, a mig and all the tools and parts that I SHOULD need. Before I go ahead and disable my car for a couple weeks, and hopefully not permanently, I'd appreciate any information and hints that you guys and girls might have on this issue. My one question off the top of my head is "Do the windshield and rear hatch have to come off and out"?
I appreciate the help. Thanks Everyone.
Gio

the windsheild and hatch can stay, you also dont need any major fabrication, tonight ill find you a link to a page the explains the conversion step by step. i think you basically only need a dremel and a drill.
also, i keep forgetting about that steering rack, if you still got it, i can come anyday for it.

hey thanks - i'll be home so i'll check the link when you find it for me - as for the rack - it is back at the shop - so yes, still have it - lets try and get it this week - maybe you can pick it up at the shop in paramus and give me some pointers on the t-top stuff being that both cars are there -

It is good, the only thing I would do is try to use an actual spot weld cutter to cut them. Much cleaner, less chance of tool slip, etc plus the extra "tabs" of metal aren't left on the car.

There are several other writeups online, that was one of the best i had found. I was gonna do the conversion on my 93 TA, but i then sold it.
Its the one benifit of a 4th gen, they are all basically designed for ttops from the factory, unlike 3rd gens, which i would NEVER recommend a ttop conversion. And for anyone wanting to do a true Targa roof conversion, it IS possible, but you would wanna start with a convertible car and work backwards and actually build a roof on it. complicated but it holds up better since you never wanna cut out that center ttop bar.
Gio, for that steering rack, just tell me a time and a place and i'll meet you there, im free all the time, any day.
