So does that mean they will be highly desirable in 40 years? Low production numbers and all....

All acura's now look like spaceships...chevy ventures had the warner bros edition and acura should do the marvin the martian edition...the zdx and honda crosstours are those weird, xover type vehicles that imo, make no sense...kinda a wagon w/no room, kinda an suv w/no pulling power, kinda a car w/o the gas mileage..just weird. Landcruiser is justt over priced when compared to the benz for the same $ and better status symbol. Hyundai's lineup is suberb now, so any old design reminants need to be flushed asap. Mitsubishi died w/the evo 8 and when the eclipse turbo died in '99, lancer sportback looked like the malibu maxx from 6 years ago, probably one of the uglier cars gm produced but can't take the crown away from the aztec or rendevous. Mitsu's new lineup does nothing to ignite b/c they wanted to capture a wider market segment by being generic. I've been in the auto game for years, and know when something won't sell..you need to find a niche and a way to fill it.

The 4Runner is around $50K so the Land Cruiser has to cost more!

Vice versa, I think. And the number designation is up to 560 or so now. I love the older Land Cruisers, but the new ones have no business here. 70k is a huge amount of coin for a great off-roader that is too nice and too big to actually take off-road.

I love the Acura Zdx- the price though is completly out of line. Im sure thats a big factor as well. Its kind of weird looking- guess thas why I liked it. Slightly resembled the BMW x5.

I recently looked at a Lancer Sport Back. It's really caught up in a purgatory state as far as what market it's after. It's too sporty looking for older people to want it, thus they go with the Subie wagons, it's too huge for college girls to tote around the campus ( I mean this thing is big, but since the last itteration of the Lancer family, all of them are like that) and as for the younger gentlemen crowd, it's not sporty enough, i.e. no AWD, turbo, go fast parts ( and droppign of Rally Art killed the factory aftermarket assistance.) Should of made it an option for the Evo crowd, since the Sti's are a hatchback, and are still being bought ( albait at a much slower rat the the previous sedan body style.)
It is a nice car, but Mitsu just can't seem to find a target audience, and their prices for what the quality is is not worth it. ( There was a Evo X sitting in the show room floor, white, with a couple of go-fast goodies in it, 41K...... pass, I'll pick up a slightly whooped Evo 8 or 9, and use the extra to fix/upgrade.
And now Mitsu is going to rely on electric cars to maybe boost their image and push them into that market, but why would you drop all of your tooling and turn the whole company to electric cars when the market here is bare minimum as far as finding buyers, and at this point and time, if anyone was looking into a hybrid/electric car, they most likely already purchased the Pruis,Volt, or Leaf.... This will be the final straw on the company's camel's back. Shame, I love the 3000GT's and old style Evo's.

^ your right on that my friend. I had a few turbo/awd talons back in the 90's and they were great. What you noted on the sportback is exactly what mitsu is after, the evo and turbo eclipse were niched to specific buyers and thats why they went to the new, non turbo eclipse back in 2002, to appeal to a more generalized market. Its a shame as they were a rival and the words 'evo' radiated from across the pond for several years before they actually brought it over..to see what it has become is a shame. Mitsu has no truck market (pickup or suv) and their car market is very lack luster...their primary profit now comes from non vehicle eletronics...they'll be the next to faulter no doubt about it.
