I'm sure if a shop wants to take the carpet out to cover themselves, thats fine and their choice. But doing so also increases the time spent working on the car by quite a bit, and therefore raises the price of the install, and like I said earlier, its not necessary as my Z is proof of that. As long as they take their time with the welding, and don't get the torch too hot, which they need to do anyway because of the fuel lines, removing the carpet isn't required.
As I stated previously "I don't know how to weld", so I can't just go rent a welder. Otherwise I would have never even posted this up to begin with.
 | Well the first thing is, if you are revering to MIG welding, its a mig gun, not a torch.
Torch applies to TIG and Gas welding.

And i'm sure you can risk keeping the carpet in if you like, but 5 minutes to pull back the carpet isnt the worst waste of time.

you want to learn something about the things you are commenting on, sit inside the car while its being welded and watch the floor turn orange where its being welded.....as one would expect. I would prefer my carpet not be on top of that.

Put your hand over the carb throat and give it gas. The vac will pull crap out of the passages. Used to work on q-jets.
