			i got two 3rd gens that i drive everyday . they waste more at the pump but make up for it with cheap parts. my cars do fall apart but could easlly can be fixed with out taking the whole car apart.  my TransAm is 24 and has more things and is in better condition then any 10 year old vw . the way i think is what ever imports can do american has done it better.

They can just drive it, and worry about. Total cost = 0. Maintenance cost = 0 (I know all my maintenance is covered til 36k, dunno about others). It's kinda silly to compare a 17+ year old car to a new one. New one is almost always better, this is no exception.
