Burned up My clutch now tranny is hard to shift please help!!!!!!
ok basically i have a 2001 camaro z28 no bolt ons yet just some free mods with the m6 trans. my girl drove it earlier today and rode the clutch a little bit much on a hill and over reved the motor. well the clutch started smoking pretty good but now its kinda hard to shift gears. but when im moving its fine but at at stop when i put it into first its a bit rough going in. and reverse is pretty hard to get into. it has gotten a bit better as the car cooled a little . do you guys think that this might work its self out or its gonna be problems for me later on down the road. by the way the clutch is the oem ls6 clutch and its only has about 10,000 miles on it and hasnt been beaten much. but yes the clutch was smoked pretty bad

oh im supposed to let the left pedal all the way out? lol its possible the clutch got fried. other issue might be the master cylinder, in which case you get a ram adj master with drill mod. buttt id say if it was fine up until the lil lady drove it, my guess would be the clutch got hurt

If you got it really hot there is a slight chance you boiled the fluid and damaged it. So first thing I would try is to change/flush the hydrolic clutch fluid.

second that notion,
under really hard launching/slipping of the clutch can cause temps to rise & boil/air pocket the slave/master.
1. take the car for a drive, click car into 5th bout 50-60mph. push clutch in, rev engine up (don't friggin redline it) to about 2000rpms more than what it was cruising at, and drop the clutch,at the same time as full throttlein it. stock clutch will slip very slightly then engage fully if it is good.
if clutch is bad rpms will keep increasing with car not accelerating(going up in mph).
this will tell you if clutch is holding. if holding than you have either a bad slave/master or air in the line and need to bleed to fix the hard shifting problem.

i wouldnt even do that. 6th gear 45mph and just hit it. if it lugs then the clutch is holding. if the rpms jump up, well, time for a new clutch lol. i wouldnt be droppin the clutch in 6th lol.
definately bleed the clutch fluid, put new stuff in there and see how it works

How does your clutch feel overall? I understand it is hard to put in gear from a stop but to pump the clutch pedal how does it feel? If you apply pressure to the pedal without actually pressing it down, does it slowly drop? or does the pressure keep it up?

clutch still holds very well in every gear still can hold a load without slipping its just hard to get it in gear

the petal feels pretty stiff it does have some play in it but it is holding pressure. it goes down and comes up the same as it did before it is almost like the clutch isnt fully engaging. i can feel it when i shift its almost like its catching itself on something

feels like youre hitting a wall when u shift? if so, im having the same issue, im going with a ram adjustable master with drill mod. reason for doing so is because the same thing happened (hard getting into 1st and reverse, harder 2 get in gear) with my trans am a few years back and after the new master cyl, its been great ever since

From what you described it is definitely a problem with the hydraulics.

Is it just hard to get in gear? Does it sometimes kick it out of gear too?

Thats an awesome technique, and much better than what I was taught to do. I was taught to find a steep hill, get the car rolling around 25 mph, then dump the clutch half way up and watch to see if the rpms rise higher than normal in relation to your mph.

The LS engines seems to have an issue with the clutch slave cylinder sticking, with the pedal not returning all the way up. The advice on the net is to change the fluid often, to make sure that it's clean and doesn't contain the burned friction material.
I've had a similar issue with my G8 this weekend: I went to a drag strip to try it out and on the 4th pass the pedal didn't release, stuck half way up when shifting to 2nd. I didn't realize that and fried the clutch pretty good. The pedal then came up after I lifted the gas, then same when shifting to 3rd, and then I gave up and just coasted. I've let it cool down for a while, with open hood, and it seemed to work fine afterwards. But the fluid became real dark, and now there is a fair amount of free pedal travel at the bottom.
So try to fully lift the gas pedal when shifting, shift, wait a little, only then get back on the gas.
