My weekend so far.....

So a half an hour after I got to work yesterday I get a call from my wife telling me the house is flooding. She has a tenancy to overreact so I figure one of the kids dumped some water on the floor and she's freaking out, but then I heard the splashing in the background as she walked - not a good sign. Turns out that the water pipe that leads to the hose connection outside had frozen and burst over the winter, so when she turned the hose on yesterday to water flowers it started filling up the wall and the kitchen and living room with over 1" of standing water.

Got the pipe replaced last night just before midnight, but we have to deal with the ripped up living room floor until later this week, as we can't even find out if we can still get the same flooring until Tuesday.

It's been a fun weekend so far

I feel your pain

I've been having a great weekend too. I managed to cut my finger pretty good 10am Saturday morning and got to hang out at the hospital for 3 hours to get stitches and such. I have a partially cut tendon too, so hopefully that heals well. Hooray for me!

Damn....been there. Upstairs bathroom pipe burst, destroyed ceiling in dinning room, and that leaned down into the basement. Tri level disaster.

Ouch. That sucks man. I had my kitchen sink drain back up last year- and I mean REALLY back up. Had to open up the wall and re-do the drain all the way back to the main. Not fun.

Sucks dude, had the hot water heater let go and start filling up the basement. Caught it when it was just ankle deep at the most but it was also 4 in the morning.

Make sure everything is cleaned up well so you don't create a mold problem.

And be sure to put in a secondary shut off, somewhere further upstream, with the little drain ***, so the same thing doesn't happen next winter.

Had the same problem in our attic (our outdoor water lines) froze and busted open with rain from above not being pretty.
I had a plumber install a fitting with an on-off valve and right above was a threaded pipe plug. When you turn off the water for the winter to those lines, open all the outside lines to let the water drain out. Then take out the drain plug and open up the water valve.
What that does it to let any air out of the line and also allows ALL the water to drain out.
Also they sell a pipe wrap that you can plug in and it will keep the pipe warm if you need that line during the winter, like if it's closed off behind a wall.

I spent the weekend fixing rotted floor beams under my washer. Apparently the previous home owner didn't seem to mind the washer drain backing up.

I have about an entire roll of underlayment if you need it for your floor.
