water temp question (ls1)

Where does your water temp sit normally? Mine usually sits a hair under 210 (or what ever is dead center of the gauge). Lately its been sitting a bit higher than 210.. maybe 230 or so?

Checked the fan and coolant level, they seem ok. Could it be the thermostat?

anyway anyone who knows my posts knows im not mechanically savvy at all so any info is appreciated.

Water temp gauge in my 01 is a idiot light with no bulb basically. Its straighy up when running, i think 210 mark. According to the obd2 guage, its 180 when crusing.

230* is definitely to high. Would get it checked before you hurt something.
Before I did the h/c, it would sit around 190-200.

Could be a thermostat, water pump, coolant quality itself (dex-cool sludge), something blocking the radiator, intermittently failing fan.

I forget exactly which years, but I think the water temp gauge on some of the LS1 cars are just idiot lights and don't give the real temp. Your best bet is to get someone with a scanner or programmer and hook up to get the real reading from the computer. The water temp in my 2001 5.3 runs around 177 but I have a lower than stock t-stat in it.

98 is the only year ls1 with a mechanical water gauge that registers in real time. the 99-02 are basically 3 settings, 1/4, 1/2, HOT. it should be 1/4 when cold, 1/2 when warmed up.

maybe its the thermostat on its way out because the water pump went already like a year and a half ago

a year and ahalf ago with the new water pump...

what should i do first? Flush it and see if that works.. its not running at 230 ... its like a hair or two over the 210 mark.. and sometimes right on.. but not consistent like it used to be at 200 or w/e...

If that's the case with the gauge definitely get live data and see what its reading.
