I feel the same way. Car looks really good but the rear just doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the car.

I would guess that it's twofold- one, to keep up with Porsche, and two, to hit the almighty MPG numbers while still having a ton of power.

This is where I'd put my money as well.

Fact is, the car's evolved. GM is keeping up with the Jones's... In this case, if it's going to set it's sights on KO'ing other supercars, it needs to look the part.
----
I think everyone is just bashing it because it's a LT1

The problem is, at least from what I have read, that it isnt keeping up. Since they made it a 3 pedal car with a single clutch a lot of people are unhappy on the corvette boards, because it isnt on par with the exotics they are trying to beat.

That's just two, there's thousands of more that don't think the same way.
Go to a local coffee n' cars run, and find the guy sitting in a fold out chair next to his bone stock C5/C6, with the fake children playing hide and go seek leaning on his car, wearing the Corvette patched up polyester jacket, ask him what he thinks of the New Corvette, and I'm more then sure he'll be riding on the nutswinging express that Al is the conductor on ![Laughing](http://www.njfboa.org/forums/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif) .

I agree that 2 is a very small sample size, but couple that with the reaction here and you figure there may be thousands that agree as well. If you go to any group of fanboiis they will pound the drum that their make and model is the greatest thing ever and overlook its deficiencies. Kind of like 4th gens with glass rears and piston slap. Or 3rd gen Novas with ****** cooling systems and grandma interiors. Or 2nd gen fbodies with damn the torpedoes shiny chrome bumpers.
Time will tell. I'm sure the Corvette will sell just fine, at least while the C7 is brandy-new. I remember when a C5 sales brochure was $50 to get at the dealer, and there was a wait list.
However the GTO didn't sell well, and people picked that apart too. The arrogant quote about the C6 headlights is still very true. Although they tried the same thing with the Avalanche and its rubber "trim" and that failed.
Edit:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...e-from-me.html
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...-rear-end.html
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c7-g...thread-15.html
There are more 'Vette guys expressing displeasure in the rear design than guys that like it in these 3 threads.
^ that car is beautiful though.

The rear resembles a camaro to much. It looks good but just looks like a camaro. The seats look like 5th gen seats as well. The interior is nice but is very 91-96 C4ish. The car looks longer and not as wide as a C5/C6 so I wonder if its as cramped as a C4 on the inside? Back seat windows look strange on a 2 seater. The c4's had a 7 speed tranny as well.. 4+3.. Front end looks good and from the side it looks good. The back is my issue.

Think most of it had to do with the fixed headlights.

I prefer the C6 to anything since the mid years.

No, you're certainly right in that aspect. While I can't say that I've done my homework and brushed up on all the mechanics and tech on this car versus other supercars, I can give my two cents as a layman and a spectator.
The purists and diehard gearheads aren't going to put this car in the black. From a business standpoint, the stuff you can see is more influential than the stuff you can't. And from the sounds of the specs, it will still have enough oomph to keep everyone happy.

After seeing the real-life pics of it, I (flame suit on) like the look. It's definitely a more modern, bordering on futuristic look for the Corvette. If I had a spare mattress full of money I'd buy one.

So far the best pic i've seen was wildbillt's in gray. Doesn't look too bad in that cyber gray color. More ferrari 2+2 imo. The one on cnn i just saw didn't sell me too much.

I like the taillights ....... no they aren't iconic 4 but fits the design of the car where 4 separated wouldn't work as well.

No nut-hugging here. I just think it looks very 'future', which is apparently not what everyone else expected. I like it, though.

This is an american car. Why does it matter what Ferrari or Lambo does? We are always gonna be behind because thats the way they see us. I have been to Italy, France, All over Eruope and they could care less what we do. We are still a new country to them. I remember when we had a port call in Portsmouth England and a bunch of us went to this Australian Bar called the Walk about. We drank with a bunch of English sailors and this is what we talked about. They know we have a more powerfull military and what not but in there eyes we will always be the younger brother/sister.
The Corvette is still gonna be an american made car and Top Gear is gonna pick it apart for being to plastic or what not. Gm has pissed off Thousands of Corvette enthusiast in there hopes of attracting what? International sales? A lot of my buddies who have imports say they really did the C7 because it looks like its from Japan! Great now the Vette is being looked at as a Japanese car!!
I like the way it looks except for the rear and the back windows. Unfortunatly my next vette will be a C6 and not a C7. I would have liked to have gotton a C7 But as of now I am not to impressed by the looks of it. Maybe when I see it in person it will change my mind.
