i would describe it as a lean pop around 4k rpms. im getting no help on TGO, and have posted on other boards for the past 2 months trying to get some kind of idea. i have done all that i can do and need to find someone who specializes in this type of injection.

sounds like it could be an issue with low fuel pressure, for starters check the pressure at the schrader valve...if its low change the fuel filter, if its still low it may be an issue with the pump which is fairly common. If, though, the pressure is 40 and 45psi(not exactly sure off hand) i would give a fuel injector cleaner a try as it could be an issue with worn out injectors. Another common thing I've seen on older year TPI cars is the FPR going bad and or leaking. I would check that over and make sure the vacuum line is not split or damaged in anyway. That should give you a good start in the right direction. good luck with it.

thanks guys. ive been over chevy thunder quite a few times since ive considered doing and after the swap. he pointed me towards the ESC, knock sensor and egr all checked out. i did have a fuel pump issue a while back which was corrected, but i will change the filter and check my pressure again. also i will pick up a can of fuel injector cleaner. i have been running 93 octane. Im pretty sure the base timing is set by the ecm so perhaps that can be an issue

Ok MAF, SD. what does the engine have done to it, heads, cam, exhaust, compression ratio? That would help!

timing on a tpi motor is nothing that can't be addressed with a 14mm(9/16) and a thick glove

just loosen the bolt on the distributor hold down, and turn it counter-clockwise to advance and clockwise to retard. If you have a timing light that would be your best bet. if not, advance it till the motor starts to ping or stumble then back it of till that stops. its not the most exact or best way to do it but if you have a timing issue that should help.

retard your timing 2 degrees and run lucas fuel injector cleaner through it...get the big quart bottle and dump the whole SOB in there....after about 20min of driving if the pop continues reset your timing call Josh at JSperformance....I'm sure he'll be in here soon to give his $.50

would you stop giving out bad information. thats a bad way of adjusting timing with a tpi computer. if his motor is stock, you set base timing at 6 degrees advanced and let the computer do everything else. otherwise, you a. run the risk of too much advance = detonation or b. mask a problem that could be there with the ESC or related components.

A datalog around the area of said "pop" could give a freeze frame of load, MAF reading, injector pulse width, battery voltage, spark advance, knock, etc etc and may be able to pinpoint something wrong.

Call JS Performance. Its worth it.
